Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Well, if you are going to demand that your populace recognises that destroying energy sources, water infrastructure and hospitals in Ukraine is a war crime - which it is - then you can't turn around and deny that the same thing happening in Gaza is somehow...deserved.

If Israel "shares our values", then they are - and will be - held to a higher standard than the barbaric terrorists of Hamas. We expect barbarism of terrorists. Democratic states are supposed to be...better. I'm not seeing much difference right now.
Spot on.

Impossible, the US will block that in the Security Council with their veto as they always do.

I’m not sure they would, depending on what the motion is. If it’s adhere to international law, no collective punishment, humanitarian supplies must flow and hostages must be released then it’s hard to see why they would.

I mean we do keep saying “Israel” here a lot of the time, when a lot of the time we should mean “the Netanyahu government”. The US would back Israel 999 times out of 1000, but (however much he pretends otherwise) Bibi is not Israel. His personal responsibility for this is already colossal.

Just watched a Doctor based in Gaza being interviewed on C4 news. He tried to leave, as instructed by Isreal, but Hamas road blocks stopped him. He decided to stay at the hospital he works and care for the people, brave man. He did point out that thousands will die due to the arrogance of the leaders on both sides. Always the same, a few make decisions and thousands suffer

It is mad to think that a few phone calls from UEFA/PL to four club owners could have as much impact as a UN meeting.
The UN was designed not to function right from the start, though I might say the same thing about our government. We have our own four permanent vetoes on most anything: Speaker of the House, majority leader of the Senate, the Supreme Court and the president. Then there's the two relevant committee chairs in Congress on any issue. Then there's the fact that most policy that affects day-to-day life happens at the state level, with the same structure other than the fact that the 'president' is called 'governor'.

The Prem is similarly designed to be a do-nothing body, by way of that supermajority provision in the by-laws. In many ways, the by-laws are not that different from the Articles of Confederation the United States operated under prior to the Constitution. The 9/13 supermajority required to do basic stuff like appropriate money in the Articles is the same proportion as the 14/20 hurdle in the Prem required to make changes.

General Assembly UN resolutions have no force, and a lot would have to change before the US would sign on to a peacekeeping operation.

Not only is this the same vile logic that Hamas used to excuse murdering civilians but a significant percentage of Gaza’s population is kids - how the hell is a toddler meant to do a coup d’etat?

I've been pro Isreal but this kind of comment is indefensible.. he's fixing to turn the whole area into a wasteland.

I have been through an emergency c-section situation with the missus. If we had been in Gaza there is a very high probability both my missus and baby would have died. Seeing the reports about the tens of thousands of mums to be there is heartbreaking and a disgrace. Worse still for the young children finding their lives have entered hell. I cannot even imagine the anguise and terror that these poor people must be feeling and experiencing.

There was a dad I may have mentioned earlier, a Jewsih chap who's young daughter was murdered by Hamas whilst at her friends. You could see that his life is destroyed, heart broken and in extreme shock.

There was another Palestrinian dad and husband who had lost his wife and all his chldren in a bomb strike.

No one in Israel or Palestine is winning here, everyone will lose. It is a disaster. That said, there will be actors looking to benefit from this.

His message to "every man with a conscience". Our leaders globally are bankrupt.
