Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Most of the world is calling for either an immediate ceasefire and the cessation of all attacks on civilians, or the cessation of attacks on civilians.

The UN, the WHO, the EU, the Catholic Church, all the regional countries (apart from Iran). A small number of countries aren’t, but are mouthing platitudes about sticking to international law.
This is a long way for condemning and even further from saying we need to help the people of Palestine (USA and UK sending military kit to Israel).

People are scared to challenge due to long term lobbying or right wing press pushing the Israel is a victim narrative.

Feels like the tide is turning against Israel on this ludicrous 24 hours evacuation
The world is tired of war.

Carpet bombing Gaza isn't peace and the whole world knows it.

They also know that Israel and the IDF vs Hamas and their paragliders isn't a fair fight and both sides have shown zero hesitation to kill civilians.

Neither are innocent parties, just the innocent civilians on both sides, and those civilians are the only ones deserving of sympathy.

There is definitely a lot more criticism of Israel government in the mainstream media than at any other point I can remember. A little surprising tbh
Well, if you are going to demand that your populace recognises that destroying energy sources, water infrastructure and hospitals in Ukraine is a war crime - which it is - then you can't turn around and deny that the same thing happening in Gaza is somehow...deserved.

If Israel "shares our values", then they are - and will be - held to a higher standard than the barbaric terrorists of Hamas. We expect barbarism of terrorists. Democratic states are supposed to be...better. I'm not seeing much difference right now.

I'd beg to differ. We had a minute's silence when Kennedy was assassinated against Stoke and someone shouted Krushchev and got taken out by the police. Thatcher wrote to Hughes, received LFC when they won the European Cup. She wrote to Hughes about getting defeated by Manu. She consulted lfcs chairman about hooliganism, the only chairman I believe she wrote to.
The England team giving the Nazi salute in Germany. Dixie ordering the Everton players not to.
Celtic fans getting fined for holding up Palestinian flags.
Football has been used for jingoistic purposes for years. Some would call that politics.
The issue has blown up now, because the FA wont bow down to take sides with the colonists in occupied Palestine. Quite rightly.

Edit. The geopolitics of what's happened to us with Usmanov.
Yeah, fair enough. It has been used in the past to mark certain occasions. I can think of others like 9-11 and stuff like that. But never has it been so much connected with any and every passing political event or tragedy brought about by war etc.

It's like football has to be seen to be towing the state's line on everything...they just want to reinforce the Pavlovian response.

Slippery slope as soon as they had soldiers parading the cup and overseeing the draw.
