Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

The DUP don't represent the majority view in NI
And anyway,
Using language like 'blood red lines'. I'm quite happy for Varadkar to deal with Foster via May. Seem like the responsible thing to do

It doesn’t matter who represents the majority view. It matters who will not accept the deal, and to try and get them on board. Varadkar has played an obvious game which the DUP spotted immediately and have built up a defence ever since......

So its either a border between N & S Ireland (highly unlikely / never happen)

Border between NI & UK (splitting the Union / wouldn't get through parliament ?)

Allowing free movement of goods and people (going against the referendum result, 17M voters kicking off - can't see any politial party trying that one)

Can't think of any other options tbh

And all the people involved in the decision have their own agendas (and I include the EU in this).

Good luck getting anthing sorted out unless S Ireland have a referendum and vote to leave the EU as well in the next couple of months
The last bit is like turkeys voting for Xmas
We’ve seen the chaos and bile that Brexit caused and we don’t want a repeat here
We’ve no problem with immigrants , we just can’t build enough accommodation

Fair point on who has the power to accept a deal.
However, I doubt anyone from the RoI has any chance of moving the DUP on any issue.
Varadkars best bet is negotiating with May, which he's doing.

No he’s not. He should have negotiated one on one with May, but he left it to Barnier and the 27. He could have negotiated with the DUP and tried to allay their fears, but chose not to. He’s screwed it up tbh......

I think Varadkar should have met with the guys in NI, decided what they want, and then NI and the ROI tell the U.K. and EU respectively, this is what we both want........no politics, this is what we want.....
You do realise that some of those guys in NI were the DUP
There was no way on gods green earth they would sit down with the leader of the Government of the ROI to discuss what was best for their little corner of Britain

True, but when it comes to negotiations on Brexit the EU and Ireland seem to be standing by the backstop which would mean a customs border down the Irish Sea

I think they are just holding the line really, letting the UK goverment unravel, which I think is inevitable.

For me it suits the EU not to make progress, sterling is getting weaker by the day, that is helping the Euro no end. Look at the concept of extending the transition period just introduced the longer this limbo plays out the better for Europe the worse for the UK.

May isn’t getting through a transitition period in Goverment, I think she knows and will be relieved the burden of this will be carried by some one else, you can’t help but feel sorry for going to summit and asking other people to find solutions to problems her county mandated and elected her to manage.

When a goverment can’t govern, an election is inevitable. Once the DUP are out of goverment you will find the border issue will be resolved quick enough.

There is only so long May can plate spin, it’s getting more ludicrous day by day.

However the longer this goes on suites Europe, business and markets.

People always discuss things when under serious threat. I believe that most politicians in NI and the U.K. are odious self serving cretins, but they understand self preservation.....

Whats the general thoughts of the Irish people on the best solution
ITs Britain’s mess let them sort it out
We don’t want a hard border with the 6 counties
Bad for trade , bad for tourism ,giving Terrorists something to focus on
The ROI will gain more from Brexit than it will lose with or with a hard border
