Is it a mark of respect though? I mean what does it do? Nothing really.

Black arm bands, maybe the anthem before the game (at grounds that will be OK with it anyway).

Does anybody actually ask these people what respect they would like to be shown? The Queen would probably be fuming that they pulled the Horse racing if anybody bothered to ask her.

I'm not sure what gives you (or anyone for that matter) the right to determine how people should decide to show their respects to anyone.

You've missed the mood of a nation of individuals and institutions who have spontaneously decided to act with 'respect', as they feel.

They do it with the same gusto that you choose not to.

I don’t take any offence
I stand by my statement
If you cannot see how pledging allegiance to the queen by default means pledging allegiance to the nation then that’s not my concern in my 27 years service I was shot at soar at sworn at and had stones thrown at me all in defence of your liberty and rights … all of that started with my pledge of allegiance
Because by the wording mate, it would directly place the people pledging that oath against the people should the situation of choice ever rise.

In very few past (if any) conflicts in my lifetime mate will you have been defending my liberty and rights, I can assure you of that.

Anyways not the place for this at all so I'll not continue, much respect for anyone whose ever served in the forces

No offence mate, but the fact the oath of allegiance contains not one jot about protecting or defending the people, their liberty or rights but is all about the rulers kind of makes it for me not worth the paper it's on.

I think you may have just offended a little there.

Pretty sure the CA is moderated less strictly than the Ale House. But the topics tend to be more emotive hence the ban hammer coming down as people push too far.

Anyway, I was quite sad when I heard the news. She’s been Queen for my entire life (as with most people) and so it was weird to hear she’s finally gone. Don’t really have a strong opinion on the monarchy either way but thought she always came across well and carried out her role well. Can understand why some people don’t care or have stronger views but the overriding feeling for me is that it’s just weird that she won’t be Queen anymore and having to learn to say King Charles.
Not adding “spaniel” after it is going to be really hard, glad I’m not a presenter!

Far from it, but I do have an issue with people labelling people something and accepting it as true (guilt) without the correct due process.

I'll tell you why: I know of a case in a Liverpool school back in the 90s where a male caretaker was accused of a sexual assault (rape) on a young pupil.

Even when the legislation at the time required complete anonymity, it soon became known that he was a 'rapist' and was banished by his wife and family.

He, because of the colour of skin, received little legal support and Merpol were seeing an easy case. Only the support of one wealthy family member helped.

Only by the hard work of the defence, paid for by said family member, was it found that the allegations were complete fabrications and the case dropped.

This gentleman lost his job and lives with that slur to this day, so I have a strong belief that people shouldn't be judged without the correct procedures.

Was that family member vile, horrible and scum for defending their family member? If you think so, let's just go and have drumhead trials and lynchings.

But back to Andrew... It was as civil case looking for damages rather than criminal, which is subtly different. One wants damages (money) the other is the state.

To go to trial would have required evidence in public court, and maybe that's the reason they paid up. It may not have been, but we really do not know.

Virginia Wade was trafficked and Epstine and Maxwell have been criminally cried for that, and rightfully so. To the best of my knowledge, Andrew hasn't.*

You've decided he's guilty and that's your prerogative, however from experience dealing with numerous vile cases I feel it's important.

I have moral questions about the Queen's actions, yet settling out of court guilty.

*By the way, would I trust him around my daughters? No chance.

Liverpool based school caretaker and I'm guessing from an ethnic minority.
Prince Andrew.

I'd say one of them would be a little more insulated from unfound allegations and fabrications than the other before it got to the stage where legal proceedings were involved. And the case you mentioned involved a defence ultimately disproving the case.....that's not quite the case with the other is it?
