I would have more respect for his "principles" if he never made his millions in the Country he's always protesting against.

He has never protested just done his own thing which he has every right to do and not be forced to do or wear something against his beliefs. If Germany won WW2 would you wear the swastika if you were told to? Alot of the colonised people built Britain and infact built American too who were forced there due to famine brought on by...you know who. Maybe get in someone else's shoes before you decide to judge.

Since there isn't a sister, I suppose it would have to be William goosing Meghan or Harry goosing Kate, which might explain the state of their relationship.

Its more than that.

The Queen was a pawn that we have used many times over the years to build relationships with others.

The Royal family costs 100m a year, its a drop in the ocean for a country that brings in £915 billion a year in tax.

People like the poor lady above arent struggling due to the Royal Family, its cos the Tory Nazi party simply do not care, there is enough money in this country for not a single person to go without, but for various reasons many struggle and go under hourly.

But anyway, this isnt the thread for that, so ima gonna dip.

Personally think Tories and Royals are all part of the same machine. Upper class protectionist institutions. Doubt many of them vote Labour

Mate, we obviously view the proceedings from different perspectives.

I believe that both the proceedings and balance of coverage are massively and disproportionately skewed, particularly given the magnitude of other challenges facing the people of this country.

The Royal Family are enormously rich and privileged, they will want for nothing this winter. My priority and interest are with those that will face real distress. There will be no prince, duke or king knocking on anybody’s door to help.

I could probably write an essay, if I fully explained, why I find what is going on distasteful, manipulative and opportunistic.

I doubt we’d be any closer to agreeing if I did. As I said, different perspectives and points of view. I respect your right to uphold yours.

That's not quite the same thing though is it? The women's football is not on every single channel at the same time nor is every shop or form of entertainment being closed because of it.

I don't think there was much wrong with what you said by the way, I more had an issue with being "perplexed" by it. I mean it's a pretty straight forward thing really isn't it?

Maybe it boils down to how much live TV an individual watches? I don't tend to view much live, so maybe my natural viewing habits mean I'm less likely to watch BBC1 and ITV in the first place. Someone who's habits differ, veering towards often watching BBC1 and ITV a fair bit more, is probably experiencing a rather different level of "intrusion".

The shopping issue - not an issue. The shops are open seven days a week, so go on Sunday or Tuesday. No imposition at all. Don't huge numbers of people shop online anyway?

Ditto entertainment. I'm sure everyone can wait a day to go to the cinema, or go a day early.

Others on here have raised points about the NHS cancelling some appointments, and I agree entirely that this is a very undesirable state of affairs. I'm not advocating a national shut down of everything.

Your point about it being straightforward is really interesting, because I agree with you but nevertheless we reach different conclusions. As a social observation, this event shines a light on the fact that "normal" and "straightforward" don't mean the same thing to everyone, which is fascinating in itself.

ITV isn't the only channel, and I doubt you were suggesting it is so I'm not sure what your point is.

And even if it was the only channel, if the biggest grumble someone can muster is that on the day of the Queen's funeral there was nothing else to watch on the TV then I'm just left wondering why that person doesn't simply do something other than watch TV for a few hours?

@Tree13 I just came across this article, which cover many of the points I would have included in my essay.

In particular, the manipulation of the proceedings, vilification of dissenting voices and misrepresentation of individual’s motives.

All a cynical attempt I believe, by media, royals and government to market a narrative, which happens to conveniently align with all their individual agendas.
