Current Affairs Her majesty the Queen

I believe that both the proceedings and balance of coverage are massively and disproportionately skewed, particularly given the magnitude of other challenges facing the people of this country.

The Royal Family are enormously rich and privileged, they will want for nothing this winter. My priority and interest are with those that will face real distress. There will be no prince, duke or king knocking on anybody’s door to help.

I could probably write an essay, if I fully explained, why I find what is going on distasteful, manipulative and opportunistic.

I doubt we’d be any closer to agreeing if I did. As I said, different perspectives and points of view. I respect your right to uphold yours.
@Tree13 I just came across this article, which cover many of the points I would have included in my essay.

In particular, the manipulation of the proceedings, vilification of dissenting voices and misrepresentation of individual’s motives.

All a cynical attempt I believe, by media, royals and government to market a narrative, which happens to conveniently align with all their individual agendas.

I have a blood donor appointment for Monday evening. I have O- blood, so I’m a “universal” donor (basically a super hero, just without a cape), so always give blood as often as I can. I am always getting emails / texts from Blood Donors, telling me “our stock of your blood type is critically low, please donate” etc.

Just got a message to tell me that due to the funeral (which is Monday morning), my appointment (which is Monday night), has been cancelled. Along with, I assume, all other donations for that day. Next available appointment in my area isn’t for another month or so.

So that’s another important medical thing being cancelled en-mass, to add to all the cancelled surgeries, check-ups, tests etc.

‘kin unbelievable.

It's disgusting mate but she had private healthcare for 96 years so please accept that

I've said before though, people still visit Versailles, despite France not having a royal family occupying it for a few hundred years. The idea that we need a sitting monarch in order to attract tourists doesn't seem to have much to support it. I mean it's not like the Colosseum is still hosting Champions League games, is it?

Perfectly put.

Would bring in more money than people just standing at the gates of Buckingham Palace.

Versailles gets loads of paying visitors as does Le Louvre.

Do we really get that many go to London because we have a royal family? Doubt it. It's a major world city like Paris or New York.

I think a minute silence is not a place for protest and McClean observed it well. No excuse for anyone to disrupt it.

I think that it is almost provocative to force the national anthem on everyone this weekend, however.
It’s not forced other than it’s the national anthem and the queen has died. You can’t not play it.
I’m ambivalent in general, but you cannot deny it’s importance to most this weekend
