I personally don’t see it that way.I'm an idiot as well then. While I can see the need to push the message home at this moment so people feel they are being listened to, I believe by singling-out one group you are just storing up trouble for later as it's possible that could stoke an even bigger us v them mentality in certain folk. I may be wrong but that is my viewpoint that the rioting/looting will be attached to the BLM message and will harden the very people that need to listen most.
I would much rather see the police officer get life imprisonment and the message come down that police brutality and any people in authority positions that act with impunity will face the harshest possible punishments seeing they are here to protect and should know better. This is to protect all, be it Black, Asian, Hispanic or even Redheads ().
African American lives are disproportionately affected by police violence, I don’t see any way anyone can honestly look at the data and believe otherwise so seems very logical to focus on that.
And that focus on the issue that Black Lives Matter has brought is creating change that brings positive value to everyone and it is unllkely to have happened without it as if you aggregate it over the entire population the data doesn’t look as bad. Not many middle aged white females are getting beaten up by police for instance.
Plus isn’t ”stop using chock-holds on African American men but fine if you use it on a white woman” - it is stop using on all citizens. Similarly on things like de-escalation training etc. so can’t see how it can build up an us vs them mentality as all benefit from a better police force.

I don't disagree with what you say re data and I'm not trying to make anyone see anything differently but I will give you the reason why I think the way I do. Basically the officer who decided to sit on George Floyd's neck had either a personal dispute with him or was racist. If it's the latter people who dish out this brutality on the basis of skin colour are not suddenly going to change any misplaced views. They'll go home turn on the TV or the radio or the Internet and see the riots, see videos like the one Zat put up and they'll sit there nodding their heads in agreement with what that host is saying and be horrified by what the woman says in regard it is justified to burn things down, even though the riots/looting cannot be attributed to one race. These people then spout the same crap to their neighbours, their kids, who more than likely will do the same to their kids.
This cannot have any other effect than deepen ingrained views. The same happens on the opposite side where people hear what that host is saying and that is not going to make anyone feel warm and fuzzy to white people either. You are just giving a soapbox to the unhinged and nothing gets better when that happens. It's just another form of populism where you're preaching to the converted on both sides and although they shouldn't be compared you have seen with Trump, with brexit, it just divides.
This is a police brutality issue (albeit with more than likely racism in play) and should be dealt with as a general policing issue. It should have been done a long time ago and not have to wait for an event like this. I can't see how stoking the fires helps anyone longterm to actually deal with the very root of the problem. Hopefully the directive comes down that makes a better police force because of this and that will be at least something to make it worth the pain and suffering.
By the way I hope I am wrong about the attitudes hardening on the extremes of each side, but I feel this is only going to soften with proper education and opportunities.

People in America have started protesting at their anger because of the treatment of their people based on skin colour literally leading to police killing with racist tendancies.
That has nothing to do with anyone in this country , they aren't being murdered by police , they aren't being arrested because of their skin colour. We don't have this issue in the UK, we may have 30 years ago but pure racism doesn't exist in the UK bar a few minority horrible people.
So I ask again, why does everyone have to piggyback everything that happens. Why do everyone have to feel special and involved. Instead of just supporting their fellow humans in the issue THEY are having, why do people have to make it about them as well?
