Perhaps Bruce. Maybe, like the Covid Stats, we are just being frightened with a never ending stream of ‘news’….
I think this is true. I remember over memorial day weekend, late may in the U.S.
The national news on all 3 networks and CNN was talking about all the shootings. They gave the amount of people who were killed in gun violence and gave some overwhelming number on its face.
But it's like, I had never once seen in the news them report the figures after a random weekend like that. The aim was definitely to get people to look at it a certain way, and almost seemed coordinated.
It was just bizarre. I remember specifics because I was like why the hell is this national news. They were talking about a party in AZ in which two people got killed. Horrible for those involved, but random acts of violence like that are never national news. It was just your regularly unfortunate shooting that happens every weekend somewhere.
I don't mean to sound so callous about it, but it just isn't national news. People like me in NY didn't need to know about it. Seemed like someone was trying to frame things a certain way to pass some gun legislation. Which the legislation may be warranted, however to the point you were mentioning, the constant stream, taking the macro and presenting it as if it was micro, these things all definitely make people think things have gotten worse.
