Everton Brands Appointment Confirmed

I bet Bernard is gutted that you the fountain of all knowledge is unsure about him . He only been here 5 minutes from the little we have seen of him he looks like he has a good football brain on him so let's give him a chance eh before you go all Pickford/ baines /black Monday on him
Bernard has talent, no question. My question mark hovers over his physicality. No use having good feet and good balance if you're so slight or lacking in lethal pace. Not in this league.

Jury out on him as a PL player for me.

He came in when we had a garbage, ageing and bloated squad filled with total wasters on big wages.

If nothing else, we have a younger, hungrier and refreshed team with plenty of headroom for improvement. His job is FAR from over. It has barely only begun. If every summer Brands is here is similar to what we witnessed last transfer window, I'm extremely confident that he can build a squad that can seriously challenge for the top 4.

People complaining about him are seriously missing the point of his position. The idea is for him to be here for the long, long term. He will make mistakes along the way but he is learning more and more about our squad with every game.

He's got this, no doubt in my mind.

I see Silva’s hands all over our transfer business’s rather then Brands if I’m honest. I don’t know that for certain, just my opinion. I’m sure he was involved in negotiations etc. some things I like, somethings I don’t at this stage.

Will give the man some time.

I'm not sure about Bernard just yet.

I already conceded we have two very good signings in Digne and Richarlison (the latter being Silva's call, btw).

Yes, progress has been made there. But we shouldn't hand Brands a task that he has 4/5/6 windows to make a good sigbning here and there. We need ALL the signings to work out. And that's my point: I dont think - at this point in time with the available evidence - that Brands has earned his bouquets. He has t do much better next summer than what he did this summer in terms of getting cash in from players and securing all the targets we have early and fit with quality that kicks us on rather than fills gaps.

That's a big ask. You can do all the homework possible and scrutinise every aspect but some deals don't work out. The commodity is human beings and there's a huge amount that can go wrong - professionally or personally.

There's not a club in the world that has got every deal right.

That's what Brands has to aim to do. Bringing in two players with injuries and one who hasn't played for half a season wasn't exactly maximising the possibility of getting them all spot on.

I honestly dont know what the issue is here (not just with your post but others too). Pointing out that the summer transfer dealings wasn't all it was cracked up to be back in August isn't controversial at all. It's legitimate to point that out. I mean, no one would suggest right now that the enormous praise heaped on Brands back then is justified now, surely?

Name me one club that has all their signings work out in the last 5 years
City Barca Madrid United Juve FC Big Stand all get signings wrong
So far and I say so far not one of Brands signings can be said to be a flip

If the object of the exercise is to strengthen the quality of the squad each window then I'm not sure too many will see an obvious leap forward from last season to this.

We have this window, but I agree with every passing window that will become harder and harder unless we can make the jump by being actual trophy winners or contending for a CL spot. Having said that we still have 2/3 positions currently we should be able to improve a reasonable amount on so I expect if not this Jan then the summer we should. Of course we are not bringing in the like of Messi etc. as replacements so it is never going to be exponential growth but we haven't radically changed what we are as a club to deserve that. So surely Brands should be judged on the incremental gains?

He shifted

Williams, Martina, Klaassen, Rooney and the rest. For me, that’s huge progress.

He and Silva have brought in Richarlison, who has been our standout player, then Bernard, who looks like he could be amazing and Digne who also looks boss.

Potentially Mina could be ace and that’s 5 bums out, 4 boss in!

Yes, certainly wouldnt make sense to heap any praise on Brands for so far Richarlison, Zouma, Bernard, and Digne that have all started well. And if Mina and Gomes continue to trend, would certainly make no sense to praise him for going 6 for 6.

In bizarroland.

...how do you know that the injured player (Gomes) wasn’t Silva’s call?

I think it’s simply wrong supporting your argument with selective evidence.
