A while until our next match, so I'm rolling out some 'Everton Alumni' threads.

A club record signing for Everton at the time, around £8.5m - joining in May 2006.

He was only here two seasons, scoring 17 Premier League goals in 52 starts.

What are your memories of Andy Johnson?

Quick, worked hard, scored a few goals then we made some money on him, couldn’t ask for more really. Seemed a decent feller too. Remember he scored a belter in the europa league from long range

Proabably still our fastest player.

Great goal on his debut. Oh and Watford were robbed in that game.

I remember being dead excited to sign him, and him being rapid and a very handy finisher. Feel like he got off to a flyer then the goals got a bit more spaced out.

I always thought he didn't get anywhere near the credit he deserved here, but then I guess he just got overshadowed by the Yak in his second year and was quietly moved on when the time came.

Would gladly murder any one of you to get that pace back in our team up front, like.

I liked him, thought he was going to do a lot better than he actually did. Where did he go after us?

I recall him ultimately being told to chase balls pumped into the corner flags so it could be crossed for Cahill or The Yak. No wonder his goals dried up.

Didn't Mourinho accuse him of being a diver and subsequently had to apologise after Moyes saw his arse big time? IIRC Moyes complained to the referees boss (whoever it was) and it was acknowledged that he [Johnson] had been denied a valid penalty on numerous occasions.

Enjoyed that. Interestingly for a striker with such pace, only 2 of those 17 goals came from positions where he got in behind the line (if you take the comical Bramble slip out)

Got my lad his first season ticket aged 6 & that 3-0 was his first live derby.


I did have to gently manage expectation & tell him it might not always be like this.

Believe it was Wenger, called him a diver in the build up to the game, was all over the press and he never got given anything again. Was ridiculous, was getting bundled over travelling full pelt and was ignored every time.

That's the one everybody will remember I'm sure there was a picture of him celebrating in the snow. There were players with gloves and snoods on and I think AJ had short sleeves and a 'sweat band'
