Everton Alumni Andrew Johnson

Thought he was disappointing overall tbh.

Some good moments like Arsenal and Liverpool but thought we’d signed a 20 goal a season poacher that would have us knocking on the door of the Top 4.

Not all his fault based on what he was asked to do but I was so excited at the time of him signing… Just never really worked.

We did. We just decided that a guy who had built a reputation on direct runs, sharp movement and poaching goals, was better deployed chasing down defenders and being played out wide to cross balls into the box for others.

He was still better than what we have now ....

i don’t disagree

but he wouldnt be a premier league centre forward in this day and age sadly

In the same way michael owen or robbie fowler probably wouldnt

being tall, strong and good at holding the ball up seems to generally be valued over goalscoring ability

Didn't Mourinho accuse him of being a diver and subsequently had to apologise after Moyes saw his arse big time? IIRC Moyes complained to the referees boss (whoever it was) and it was acknowledged that he [Johnson] had been denied a valid penalty on numerous occasions.
I seem to remember he'd scored 21 goals for Palace with 10 or 11 penalties that he'd won himself. May have been Wenger who accused him of diving but after the referees' head reviewed them they were all found to be valid penalties. However we were knocked back for several clearcut ones because of the accusations.

It turns out that it was both Mourinho and Wenger. The myth that he was a diver was debunked but as you say the damage was done whilst he wore an Everton shirt and we as a club suffered. It's crazy when you look today at the RS version of Tom Daly - Mo Salah. Proof, if we ever needed it, that the refereeing is corrupt!
