Everton Alumni Andrew Johnson

Yes - it was about a month after Cech got his head injury. Johnson hurdled the keeper to avoid either of them getting injured and Mourinho called him a diver for it.

Hated Mourinho since.
Thanks, I thought I had got it mixed up as other members have correctly pointed out that Wenger laid the boot in as well. He never stood a chance after that.

I thought it was Wenger who started the entire diver narrative

brilliant when he came in and some great memories there - debut goal, derby, spurs away, arsenal in the snow

by the end of the season Vaughan was looking the better striker, and then Yak really elevated us

would prefer him to barry but he probably plays LW if he comes through now, or just doesnt make it to premier league level without the strength height and technical ability or play either as a cf or winger in todays game

The Chelsea lad can play no 9 - Braiden LW.....when do we score 4 goals at home ?
Andy Johnson was no 6 footer but effective in scoring...

Meant to seperate those qualities

Johnson would unlikely be a top CF now as he lacks physicality and height. Pretty much every cf in the league is 6ft plus. Get the odd exception like Jesus or Kroupi but both have exceptional technical ability

Johnson also wouldn’t have the technical quality to play on the wing, as evidenced when Moyes and McLaren played him there when you needed a lot less technical ability than now

George is 6ft1 which helps with playing as a 9 these days

Graham looks to have a lot more technical ability than AJ

I liked Johnson, and he was a decent prem striker for his era (would’ve been even more effective in the 90s in a strike partnership)

But I doubt he’d make an effective striker in the modern game

Well our two buffon number 9s are hardly cutting the mustard are they?

Nope, they’re bad, but that wasn’t what I was saying was it. look at the profile of every good striker (or even just those starting regularly) in the league or in the past 5 years:

Haaland
Havertz
Ekitike
Izak
Joao Pedro
Thiago
Kane
Firmino
Watkins
Mateta
Welbeck
Woltemade
Wood
Wissa
Delap
Calvert Lewin
Evanilson
Jiminez
Munez
Richarlison
Solanke
Wilson
Toney
Strand Larsen

Not one of them is short

Might get the odd one in recent times like Aguero or Jota but both on a completely different level to someone like Andy Johnson
