Everton Brands Appointment Confirmed

His summer activities left us with players coming in late and with long term injury worries with two of the incomers. We should be top 6 given the teams we've faced and would have been if we'd had a dominant CB and ceative midfielder.

Down to him and him alone we're on 9 points and 11th.

Nothing to do with Pickford messing up at home to West Ham twice.
Or Richarlison/Walcott/DCL not taking chances v Arsenal?
Or Jagielka getting sent off v Wolves?

It's a strange partnership when one complains that the other's tardiness has left him playing catch up from day one of the season.

Think Dave there is far more to it than that. For me the pressure was to get rid of the dross and free up funds. Look on the bright side, the crap that we have got shut of!

I'd say that was true of a manager who's task is to change a style of play. So far we can be pleased with Silva's efforts in that respect, but it'll take time - because a new culture is something you establish over the medium-to-long term. But the work of a DoF is easily determined by looking at the cash brought in and cash spent in a window and by the observable on-field evidence of the opening few months of the season in terms of player quality brought in. On that criteria I dont see any need to be overly praiseworthy about Brands. His sales brought in £20M and the rest he just broomed out on loan deals. The players signed are a mix of very good, very average and very missing.

How can that be getting a thumbs up off anyone in all seriousness?

I think its decent work in progress. Wouldnt hang the guy out to dry just yet.

Think you are being overly harsh there mate. Seeing he only started his job on June 1st, alongside a new manager I think he has done way better than that. We are still yet to see 2 players and Bernard has the potential to be excellent. He did just about everything we had on our checklists. I would score 7.5.
If they get on the pitch and do the business like we believe they can then I'd re-evaluate that score I gave. As things stand though...

Getting shut of people on loan is a bit easier than getting clubs to buy. What were the conditions / deals pushed through on them? And Brands got very little in for the players sold. In fact, his failure to come to a deal with Leipzig prevented us buying more players.

The incoming players ARE hit and miss.

The cult of Brands is at an end. The Gomes and Mina situation has ensured that if nothing else.
Brands fault Mina gets his foot broke day before his debut?

If the two players he signed and who haven't played HAD played I believe we dont lose points form those incidents because we're solid and confident and creative.

Brands needed to find that talent and good to go.

Hardly freed any funds. We still dont know what sort of dent it even made in the wages. I suspect we stood still on that with the new lads soaking up the savings.

Maybe.

Bt the assessment has to be a rolling one. I said above that if Mina and Gomes get on the pitch and prove they are the players who can make a difference then I'd state that Brands had a good summer.
