Everton Brands Appointment Confirmed

@davek

If we solely look at our permanent first team signings of Bernard, Richarlison and Digne.

Seeing as you're giving out ratings, how would you rate those 3 left sided players compared to other teams in the league?

Personally, I'd say that if we replace Baines well then we have one of,if not the best left side in the league.

If this is replicated over the next few windows with players of an equal calibre (and were yet to see Mina) then surely this bodes extremely well?

I think the next positions to be focused on will be;

DM
CM
RF/RW
CF

Schneiderlin + Tosun + Niasse + Lookman out the door in Jan to bring in circa £70mil to go towards the upgrades.

Can imagine some really left field unexpected signings.

Should our DOF be judged solely on player recruitment? What about the behind scenes stuff which no one frankly has any idea about.?

Culture of the club..
Relationships with other clubs/agents..
Financial Fair Play
Academy

I actually admire Brands for sticking to his targets; we saw last year if we couldnt get out number one then our 2nd, 3rd choices were either gone or not as good.

As Brands said; we wanted Mina all summer and we got him. If hes our number one then fair play.

Managed the transfer of Richarlison very well considering the relationship with them currently.

Reduced the 'transfer leaks' to King/Joyce et al.

Average?

You are actually insane, Brands bought a whole new left side, a whole new defence, an attacking option and a player for the middle of the park, plus a young highly regarded GK, he literally couldnt have done a better job.
You can bring players for those positions; it doesn't necessarly mean the recruitment is good enough to solve the issues. Quality/quantity.

If he can oversee the signing of 2 long term players that improve on what we have got per window over the next couple I will be very happy. He has done that this summer with Digne and Richarlison, possibly 2 more in Bernard and Mina. Rome wasn't built in a day and we need to be realistic given the amount of problems we have had in recent times.

I'm very comfortable with the situation compared to last year, we just need to kick on so when prospective players look at the table they are not scrolling down past teams like Watford, Bournemouth and Wolves before they get to Everton. This will make things easier trying to get who we want believing they can win something here instead of mercenaries just in it for the cash.
If the object of the exercise is to strengthen the quality of the squad each window then I'm not sure too many will see an obvious leap forward from last season to this.

I'm not sure about Bernard just yet.

I already conceded we have two very good signings in Digne and Richarlison (the latter being Silva's call, btw).

Yes, progress has been made there. But we shouldn't hand Brands a task that he has 4/5/6 windows to make a good sigbning here and there. We need ALL the signings to work out. And that's my point: I dont think - at this point in time with the available evidence - that Brands has earned his bouquets. He has t do much better next summer than what he did this summer in terms of getting cash in from players and securing all the targets we have early and fit with quality that kicks us on rather than fills gaps.

I find it strange Dave is calling for patience with Silva, but expects Brands to solve years of mismanagement in one transfer window.
It's not illogical. I said earlier that Silva has to change a culture of playing football and that takes time to do and therefore evaluate. What Brands does can be seen to be good business or bad business in the short term.

Im almost certain you are the only person who doesnt think we improved the squad in the Summer.

It's just lazy to say that. The defence is still a shambles; we have no obvious attacker worth their salt; the central midfielders cant pick a pass. LB and wide left we have improved. However, that can be said to be offset by Rooney's departure who was still a class player.

If it's mprovement it certainly is not dramatic.

Stop drinking the Kool Aid and have a good think about it.

I bet Bernard is gutted that you the fountain of all knowledge is unsure about him . He only been here 5 minutes from the little we have seen of him he looks like he has a good football brain on him so let's give him a chance eh before you go all Pickford/ baines /black Monday on him
