Everton Brands Appointment Confirmed

We have this window, but I agree with every passing window that will become harder and harder unless we can make the jump by being actual trophy winners or contending for a CL spot. Having said that we still have 2/3 positions currently we should be able to improve a reasonable amount on so I expect if not this Jan then the summer we should. Of course we are not bringing in the like of Messi etc. as replacements so it is never going to be exponential growth but we haven't radically changed what we are as a club to deserve that. So surely Brands should be judged on the incremental gains?
Judge him on the claimed difference he made last summer.

...how do you know that the injured player (Gomes) wasn’t Silva’s call?

I think it’s simply wrong supporting your argument with selective evidence.
The idea to bring him in was Brands':

Brands told The Guardian: “I went to Barcelona twice at the end of June or beginning of July to speak about a few Barcelona players because [Lucas] Digne was on our list and Mina was on our list.

"They told me about the other players who it was maybe possible to get. I asked about Gomes and they said no, he was only for sale.

"I knew the price and it was not possible for us so we left that. In the end, he got injured in pre-season and we started talking about him again.

“I asked Marco [Silva] to talk with him because he knows him very well and the player was enthusiastic about it. I went back to Barcelona and asked if there was a possibility of getting him on loan."

So Marco agreed with Brands and knew Gomes very well and talked to Gomes on the phone but signing Gomes was all down to Brands
Ok so

Surely he'll be identifying the next set of potential incomings now. Be interesting to see the kind of strikers he comes up with.

It's a myth from the outset anyway that manager and DOF will 'agree' on all signings, human nature dictates that that isn't always possible or even desirable. What's presented as agreement is just spin. Very often agreement just means the other person not blocking something.

They can still manage to have a perfectly good working relationship whilst not always being in agreement, and the club will be stronger if the two of them feel free to express their honest opinion, both to each other and when dealing with upstairs.

Every player that joins has to be initiated by one of them, unless they have the coincidence of simultaneously suggesting names to each other. Most of the suggestions will come from Brands given that he has the time and scope for co-ordinating any scouting, and I assume scouts and analysts will all report to him.

The way I see it is that Silva will tell Brands he needs a player for a certain position , let’s say striker
Silva will tell tell him what he wants most in a striker ,pace , holds the ball up , tall , good in the air , makes good runs into the channels and put those attributes in order of importance
Then Brands will give him a list of suitable players in the budget and they decide who to go for
Brands may at times tell Silva , I’ve found a gem and I’m signing him but on the whole I think this could be younger payers
Silva May at times day I want a certain player eg Ricarlison and Brands will run the rule over him , see if he fits the profile of player who will suit the club ( not just the manager ) going forward and either agree or disagree

..I don’t think that confirms who instigated the Gomes signing. Brands says he “asked about Gomes” but that could well have been at Silva’s behest. Indeed, Brands goes on to say Silva knows him very well.

I think it’s safer to say all incomings/outgoings need to be authorised by both Silva and Brands. One or the other will clearly make the initial suggestion but the signings are a joint agreement and both should be accountable.

Exactly , if Silva doesn’t fancy him he doesn’t play him and Brands gets the rap for wasting money
I would say academy players is where Brands will go solo

..yes. I understand there are a number of scouts specifically looking only at U23 acquisitions (one of which is Tony Grant). They are tasked with identifying and recommending a specific number of young players for signing each season. I agree that Brands will decide on those.

Plus Brands will have his contacts in Europe and South America and will be looking for academy players there
It’s where he excelled at PSV
