It's true. The manager was underwhlemed by being left to start pre-season the week the season started.

Barcelona had him off and we've had an average start because of it.

Look at the recruitment (forget about the players got shut of...most of which haven't been got shut of at all - just given away on the cheap for a season). It was the definition of hit and miss.

Over 2 months into the season and we can only now assess the job Brands did. Digne and Richarlison are hits. Good job on that. Bernard - maybe a player for us, maybe not; Zouma - poor-to-bang-average; Gomes and Mina? Who knows. A waste of cash at this stage.

Richarlison and Digne are the type of quality that we need to progress, they just look like footballers that wouldn’t be out of place at the top level.

Bernard looks like he could be a great little signing and a proper footballer albeit he has only made a handful of substitute appearances.

Early doors with Zouma but his physical presence alone makes him look a cut above what we were putting out last season.

Mina and Gomes are obviously still yet to play but given the quality of the other signings you’d back them to deliver, won’t be surprised if all 6 of Marcel’s signings are starting in a few weeks time.

he made some bad decisions against the top 4 (as it was then) granted and wasnt great in europe, fiorentina away comes to mind (got absolutely battered), but against the lower teams he knew how to beat them, going to a home game you were almost guaranteed a win or a draw, If we went down 1-0 you knew there would be a period of dominance coming up where we would score, I think it was mancini that said its always a hard game coming here, even through injuries we would still get results cahill playing as striker, pienaar leaving for spurs, baines carried on playing as if nothing had happened.

Getting shut of people on loan is a bit easier than getting clubs to buy. What were the conditions / deals pushed through on them? And Brands got very little in for the players sold. In fact, his failure to come to a deal with Leipzig prevented us buying more players.

The incoming players ARE hit and miss.

The cult of Brands is at an end. The Gomes and Mina situation has ensured that if nothing else.
