2025/26 David Moyes

I see you're doing the old 'I'll talk about gross spend when it suits my narrative and net spend when it suits my narrative' thing. Very telling.

You can talk in terms of both if you want. Perhaps it is more telling that you are not talking in any. The net spend comparison was for the previous 5 yrs to give an idea where we were as squad formed over several years...... bottom of the league. With multiple managers dethroned in the process. After which we had little of quality left to sell. Hence the meagre returns for those we got rid of. So ground zero was pretty low, and we then added the 15th highest spend to that last Summer. You can also go off squad values too, which has us approx 14th in the prem, but of course doesn't account for any imbalance in those squads. I'm not saying they paint the full picture at all, but none would really point to automatic European qualification expectation ....... which was my original point, and not really a narrative.

His most expensive signing which he signed off on and was not a mysterious entity, Dibling, played in the premier league and he opted to barely play him , so you want Moyes to have more money?

Plus the chance to sign better players who want to play in Europe, it was a golden opportunity to kick on and we threw it away.

Sunderland have blown the whole “Davie Bores stability” argument clean out the water with their last summer transfers and this season under a progressive coach.

Moyes will keep us under his self imposed glass ceiling, and forever believe the plucky Everton schtick that kenwrong peddled for years.
Part of the problem is that it almost seems deliberate, like his last season at West Ham put him off wanting to get Europe.

Nothing plucky about that finish to the season

the only slight bit of hope I have is that he hasnt been handed an extension.
There seemed to be a lot of chatter about a 3 year extension before the end of the season and that hasnt happened.
I've no idea how TFG like to run things but they don't strike me as the kind of operation who'd go in to a transfer window and season with a manager on the last year of his contract.
Maybe they are waiting for the end of season fume to die down.
Or maybe they're waiting till after the WC to do something.
Either way, if we get as far as the start of the WC with no extension, I'll begin to get my hopes up!

It’s been reported that they were happy to let Dyche run his contract down & the evidence this season with Silva, Iraola & Glasner is that it shouldn’t be a problem.

Looks like something has gone on though as Moyes seems to have lost the plot in the last 2 months. Not dissimilar to how we fell apart under Ancelotti after we think he knew he was going/wasn’t going to be backed.

I guess only TFG & Matty know. 😊

Because it would mean yet more Moyes.

Also, the qualifying positions for Europe these days are patently ridiculous. Allardyce would have got us in Europe under this system. Dyche got Burnley into Europe, Walker got Norwich into Europe. I think Koeman got Southampton into Europe. But they were all absolutely awful, utterly cack managers.

Just qualifying for Europe is not the great managerial achievement it’s being sold as!
Still a dream for Everton…

In what way? That it’s unattainable? I can’t agree with that when nearly half the league is qualifying.

Can it be good for the fans - yes. Good enough to be celebrated for a bit, and look forward to being tear gassed and watching Everton draw 0-0 with Lille.

But it’s not good enough to warrant prolonging Moyes’ contract in any way!

He didn't play the 6 at all at Preston, that Ben Whiteman did.
Armstrong should of have been the proper gametime in the middle for us but we can't make up scenarios that didn't happen.
  • Loan Spell: He joined PNE on a season-long loan from Premier League side Everton on deadline day in September 2025 before being recalled by his parent club on January 1, 2026.
  • Position Details: Within the midfield, he demonstrated versatility but was primarily deployed in central midfield.
  • Role: While at Preston, the teenager earned praise for his tactical maturity, game intelligence, and ability to contribute effectively both defensively and in attack. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

I mean it's alright posting AI, but I watched every game bar 1, so AI can stay AI, as it watched nothing.

Not meant to be a rude response but I know what I watched and even posted around each of the games up until he returned.

Saying we had the 15th highest spend in the summer and completely ignoring that ours was net while others sold their best players is clearly a narrative and pretending it’s not doesn’t do you any favours. You keep talking about it as if people are saying we should have been challenging for the league rather than just saying 13th is disappointing, it’s a bit weird.

Finishing bottom half with that squad is just completely & utterly unacceptable though really, isnt it? let alone 13th.....
What is particularly galling no one at the club including Moyes seems to really care , they'll spout hollow crap about being disappointed but there's no real sense of frustration that we squandered the best chance in years to reach Europe. It's just real status quo stuff

Prove me wrong Friedkins because I know moyes won't
