2025/26 David Moyes

Finishing bottom half with that squad is just completely & utterly unacceptable though really, isnt it? let alone 13th.....
Not really, the squad is poor still with glaring holes in certain positions. We are basically playing with 10 men some weeks.

Throwing it all away after being in a great position to push on is pretty uncceptable though.

We were 3 points behind 4th when we beat Chelsea.. Criminal end to the season. Moyes out this evening.

The fact we were three points behind the RS after 31 games but ended up 11 points behind them at 38 games says everything really. An 8 point swing to a team widely regarded as being horribly out of form shows how bad the end of our season was. And yet we played the same team and the same tactics over and over again.

Moyes out.

The squad had holes due to Moyes not prioritizing certain areas like fullbacks but it's outlandish to say the squad is poor its a midtable team. Even the last two seasons when finished around the same spots we even had a weaker squad than this season

His most expensive signing which he signed off on and was not a mysterious entity, Dibling, played in the premier league and he opted to barely play him , so you want Moyes to have more money?

We can only guess about the availabity, and who's responsible for the whole selection process and budget etc. I can't remember the chronology of when he arrived or whether or not he was a more speculative buy, or even last minute desperation. On transfers, we can also judge him on his previous tenure, when he built at least 2 solid sides...... on a negative net spend over a 10yr period. When we averaged about 7th in the league.

He operated differently when he had to be frugal, actually made some savvy purchases but that was another time of football, managers don't control every aspect of recruitment anymore, and he struggles to collaborate with others and with more money available resorts to lazy buys of older players

Maybe so but a top flight club should not be going into a season with no proper strikers or full backs.

What exactly do we have? Pickford is boss, Garner is decent and Ndiaye is really talented but most clubs have a player like him. Branthwaite played 8 games, Grealish missed half the season. KDH is alright. Beyond that we have a bit of mild promise and a bunch of players who may turn up every third game if we are lucky.

We are not good at all. 10th to 13th is probably about right. We ended up 13th because of the clown in charge.

That was a choice, FFS. That's not an excuse.

There were two right backs on the books in Coleman and Patterson.

Everton chose not to buy a new right back in the summer

Everton chose not to buy a new right back in January

Everton chose not to play any of the actual right backs it had

Everton chose not to play another player in that position like Garner, or Aznou.

Everton chose to start OBrien every single game he was fit to play right back.

They’re all choices that the club dress up as ‘we had no option’. Never mind including all the windows before this one that a specialist right back hasn’t been bought.

We’ve bought two permanent specialist right backs in 26 years in Coleman and Patterson.

Saying we had the 15th highest spend in the summer and completely ignoring that ours was net while others sold their best players is clearly a narrative and pretending it’s not doesn’t do you any favours. You keep talking about it as if people are saying we should have been challenging for the league rather than just saying 13th is disappointing, it’s a bit weird.

As I said, feel free to quote the net and real spend figures. I further qualified it by combining with the squad values, and that tends to cover most financial angles, so no narrative at all, just basic figures.... btw, we also sold numerous players, but because of so many years of low quality recruitment, we got little or nothing for most of them. Result, a relative low value unbalanced squad.
