2025/26 David Moyes

We can only guess about the availabity, and who's responsible for the whole selection process and budget etc. I can't remember the chronology of when he arrived or whether or not he was a more speculative buy, or even last minute desperation. On transfers, we can also judge him on his previous tenure, when he built at least 2 solid sides...... on a negative net spend over a 10yr period. When we averaged about 7th in the league.
You can't cherry pick him on transfers from 12 years ago and ignore his most recent performance at West Ham. You can't also ignore the difference in situation, young manager with time on his side versus older manager with short time frame in charge. Those situations affect who you'll sign/play. Also the size of wages is a more accurate barometer of league placing than net spend. In that context Moyes roughly achieved what you'd expect to achieve in his first term. There's nothing in his overall career that indicates consistent over achievement.

From nicolo Schira on twitter.

🚨 Excl. - #ACMilan have offered a contract until 2029 (€4M/year) to convince Andoni #Iraola to join Rossoneri. The spanish manager is #Milan’s main target for the coach role. Iraola has also received other three bids (Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen). #transfers
Thats a lot less than what Moyes is paid btw

That would be a good move for him. Too difficult to win at the other three places (and Everton).

So McNeil deserved his 22 league appearances??! And probably 12/13 starts for his 1 assist. Gana who was bang average first half of the season and the data backs it up, he dropped off this season by 50% compared to last season, Aznou didn’t deserve 1 minute of premier league football. Even though we have the worst left back in the league for going forward. Look at Tim’s data, great at winning the ball and getting about the pitch, keeping the ball, passing, creating chances, goals and assists he’s one of the worst in tbe league for centre midfielders, but Rhol and Armstrong not had a sniff even though they looked great at Villa. Maybe because Tim is older than Armstrong and has more prem experience than Rhol

Again the stats don’t lie, Tarkowski and Keane is a car crash pairing at CB, but the manager persists with it. You’re in tbe minority mate, bury your head in the sand, but most of us can see it. When Moyes started Dibling for the first time, that was the first teenager he’d started in a game for 5 yrs

I know the stats (generally) don't lie.... that's why I quoted some actual financial stats, and not so much the subjective opinions about players. Low money invested into a low value aging team generally still equals a low value, relatively low quality, or at least not very resilient squad.

Yes, some clubs have built great recruitment and youth systems over several years and have reaped the benefits.... sadly we haven't and we very nearly collapsed completely in recent times.

I agree that Tarkowski and Keane are a poor combo.... that's why Gana defensive role was important to give them some breathing space (not really his attacking contribution), and without him they've been more exposed. That said, he's scored more and made more assits than Tim this season, despite playing less. We had no real RB worthy of the name available, so JOB was usually required elsewhere...... Aznou is a brand newy with hardly any experience at all. Mykolenko's primary role is defensive LB as we don't really have the players for a possession game.... and his main job is then to counter opposition wingers, which he has mostly been good at. McNeil only really came back in when Grealish went lame....but tbf, he acquitted himself fairly well mostly.
