2025/26 David Moyes

I think it is natural to be cautious about getting rid of Moyes this summer. If Moyes is here for the next 10 years then it means we are winning stuff. This is a different ownership to the one he was previously under. So, yes I would be happy to see any manager stay in the role as Everton manager for a 10 year stretch.

I am on the wary side of getting rid of Moyes, too early. I think the majority of us know that this is not meant to be a long term appointment. I can understand the West Ham shouts as this is the most recent example, and a direct example, of getting rid of a manager when they are on a steady ground of a squad build. He did wonders for them in Europe, but still they got rid and yes, look at them now. Was that a bad decision to sack Moyes, when there was not a strong reason to do it. I would say it was, so it is pertinent to use that as an example in our situation.

He has been here for 12 months, we have gone from 1 point of the relegation zone to 2 points of 6th, in that time. Apart from not really liking him as a person or his style of football, is there any strong reason to jump the gun and go for this 'top level' manager, in the summer.
Technically he refused to sign a new deal that would strip him of a player veto, but it was effectively constructive dismissal as they cut his legs away in the January that season when they were top six by actually selling a bunch of players. One of the more curious decisions from a football board!

There seems to be an assumption here that TFK are more ambitious for the club than Moyes.

And I’m entirely unconvinced on that.
That’s the thing. The amount of capital required to make Everton like Villa is massive. A slower built with a smaller outlays probably would be more attractive. Especially if they are concentrating on Roma as their flagship.

Yeah of course it is, my point had nothing to do with how beneficial europe would be to the club, everyone wants it.

My point was that certain people possibly have a ulteria motives behind it.
We do have people on here that will be forever blinded by our manager..
As much as they would like the chance of europe, it would also provide them with an extra bat to beat the man with if things don't turn out rosy.

We already have probably atleast 50m out the door come summer, and thats not including Jack situation.
We than have to address Fb's and striker as a priority. That's a pretty hefty amount just to fill the gaps in the first 11.

We need a pretty damn impressive window of ins and outs.

Bring it on though, just dont want to be reading pages after pages of crap blaming us for not being fully prepared, if something like league positioning takes a hit..
Good point but you'll have pages of pages of no ambition and going nowhere and another season with nothing to play for will bring us the same recruitment issues the following year etc. Its not an easy one. To do well in this version of the EPL, you need money, good decision makers, great scouts and a large slice of luck...not easy for sure.

Flagship . You do realise the premier league is financially on another level to the Italian league

Moyes has been vastly superior to Dyche , I think he's done adequately this season although his clear flaws are evident and will continue to hinder our growth. Contrary to others I believe we have a decent squad and the only reason there are deficiencies in certain positions such as fullbacks is down to Moyes not prioritizing those areas.
I'd say 8th place so far is surpassing "adequate" for me.

What growth has he hindered so far? Utter nonsense.

If you think he should be doing better than this I think your expectations are the problem.

You don't think we should be beating a wolves team with one win all season and maybe shouldn't be letting that same team knock us out of the cup? Or that we can't prevail against West ham at home so when failed chances to maximize points.Like I mentioned previously we have a very demanding set of matches upcoming against clubs we usually get beat by such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and city so we're going to drop down the table some as Moyes typically adopts a defeatist mentality regarding sky six clubs.

We have progressed further than any of us realistically believed was going to happen.
We had this conversation last week. That just isn't true. We're doing well, but the idea that nobody would ever have dreamt that a side which finished 12th and 13th in the last 2 years could be 8th at this point is just complete and utter nonsense. In the pre-season poll on here something like 90% of respondents believed we would finish in the top half, it's just totally untrue to say that nobody could ever have envisaged us being where we are.

I think going higher than we are now would take us into the realms of having a very good season - win tonight and things start to look quite exciting on that front. On the other hand we could lose tonight and be going into our next game back down in 13th and not having won a home game for 3 months, which most assuredly would not be 'better than any of us realistically believed was going to happen'. I don't really see what there is to gain from wildly exaggerating the point. We're doing well enough at the moment, let's just say that instead of pretending we're having some sort of miraculous season beyond our wildest dreams.

Should we be beating most of the teams we are beating away Curt? Footy is funny like that, you don't win every game you expect to and you win some you don't.

Did you think we should be beating Villa? United? That game can cut two ways mate.

This is an awful lot of crying over spilled milk. At the end of the day judge our league position and stop worrying about those little details.

We may drop down the table a bit, and we may pick up points elsewhere. At the moment 8th is good, not just adequate, and if he achieves that at the end of the season every one of you calling for him to be sacked will be laughed at.

I guess almost forty years worth of mediocrity with the exception of 1995 will do that to some people. There's a generation of fans who've grown up reared on Kenwright's Plucky little Everton guff and horseshit as well.
Welcome back to @Cork Evertonian and his plucky little Everton and forty years of mediocrity.
Coincidence? I think not.

What was that poll called?

Edit: I found it and it comprehensively shows Moyes is exceeding the majority of people's expectations today. Most had us down for 9th to 12th.

This makes for some very interesting reading.

Some of the loudest voices in here who claim they've been expecting European footy didn't vote that way....
