I can't help thinking - and this isn't to say the UK have done it right - that Italy, and Spain, have both gone badly wrong somewhere though.

It looked like their lockdown was working but the numbers seem to be massively up and down.

Hopefully this is the peak for them and over the next week we start to see an evened out decline. It has been three weeks now of lockdown.

Its impotant to remember that new cases and Death figures don't indicate the overall situation on a daily bases.

There can be anything from 14 day incubation period and 14 days in ICU before a death, so the number of deaths in Italy or anywhere really today were new case figures in Italy or anywhere from anything from forth night to a month ago.

So even when new case figures drops, high death rates may still be reported for a while after. Mercifully Italy’s new cases seem to dropping somewhat in the last few days from their peak. This should be reflected in the number of death in two weeks time minimum.

Western Europe hasn’t peaked yet with growth continuing in daily diagnosed cases both in the Uk and Ireland this week, this is likely to increase the death rates in both countries in two weeks or a months time proportionally.

Not to glib, cold or flippant about the horrible loss of human life and people’s fears or worries, but a daily growth or decrease in daily diagnosed rates indicates how the death rate will be in 2 weeks or months time depending on people’s trajectory of illness.

It’s why I am massively concerned about the surge in newly diagnosed cases in the U.S. this week.

Just been out for a walk with the missus for our daily exercise. First time we've been out for 3 days as we were gardening the last 2 days and that was enough exercise for my old back. The missus wanted to drive to a NT owned car park about a mile away, and then walk from there. But it was a nice day so I suggested walking the whole way. We passed said car park on the way to our destination and were glad we didn't take the car. There were only about half a dozen cars parked there, which isn't a lot for the size of the area and number of different walks the car park services. Each of them had a notice from Devon and Cornwall police slapped on the windscreens asking why they were out today and using these parking facilities. There was further information on them which we didn't stop to take in but I imagine that would have been threatening legal action if their cars were found parked there again.

Anyway, we continued on our walk which was extremely peaceful and took our mind off things for a while, and hardly saw a sole in the two hours we were out walking. In fact, the majority of those we did see were in the village where we live. It would have been far easier to maintain social distancing from these people had we driven to the car park and started our walk there. We only saw a handful of people out in the countryside and that was at a very secluded beach we know where there was a family of 4. We were easily able to maintain our distance.

I just can't help feeling that the police are making extra work for themselves here. Yes, break up groups of people who are congregating. Yes stop people driving 40 miles to go to a beach or other beauty spot. But where they are only driving a couple of miles or so to find a more secluded spot to get their exercise, where's the harm in that.?

Its crazy - walking trail not that far from mine has miles of open space and you only really see the odd person but they have now started locking most of the entrance gates that are most convenient for those travelling by car.

Absolute idiots the coppers are - people still need to go for a walk especially with high energy breeds of dog ffs.
