bit too early to say imo. Looks like we were on exactly the same trajectory until 5 days ago, but need another 2 days of below trend growth (urgh I hate using that word) to confirm that we have slowed it. I'm hopeful, but there could easily be a large jump in a day or two, just depending on how the weekends fall in the timeline etc.
Really hope London’s case curve bends soon so it can have a knock on effect on this one.

Not really - I was trying to say that the hospitals filling up is not necessarily indicative of one scenario or the other (ie: how widespread it is amongst the population).
Okay
Loads were ill over New Year and January. Most likely millions around the country. Some are asking whether it may have been CV. I'm saying highly unlikely as the hospitals would have been full of those badly effected. Are you disagreeing with that?

I keep saying this, we desperately need a face_palm emoji.

My cousin has it and so does his wife. I'm deeply concerned. For all of us in fact, including everybody who posts on this forum.

We may get to a stage where people have to be forcibly restricted in their movements. However and this is why I keep banging the drum of individual responsibility. It doesn't have to be that way.

Honestly calling people stupid or advocating shooting people is vile. The vast majority of folks may be uniformed, scared or trying to figure out how they are going to pay the bills if they lose their job. That's the reality.

One last thing, who's going to do the shooting. Are you?
That has proven to be in very short supply

Partially, yes.

It could have been present here by then (the Oxford study referred to in that tweet @summerisle linked to and provided the FT article for said it had arrived by mid-January at the latest). Some people could have been sick with it and even could have died before the first cases were reported without it necessarily coming to notice (as there wasn't a test, people may not have been looking for it and it might have been confused for other things), and if their conclusion is correct and its spread far further but gives serious illness to less people then we would not have seen the hospitals get full straight away - but it would increase as the % of people infected goes up.

The only thing that would prove it one way or another is antibody testing, which really has to start as soon as possible.

Chloroquine is dangerous, toxic drug. People in hospitals have died taking it.
It has barely started clinical trials. Stop over hyping it.

Let's be quite honest, shall we.

Had Trump not weighed in with typical bombast, you wouldn't be saying "stop overhyping it" (for the record I've never hyped it at all).

Nobody said that when the initial optimistic media reporting on its use for COVID-19 purposes arose. All of this began only after Trump weighed in, which is an obnoxious and stupid reality to live with in a time of far more serious battles to wage.

Talk of swearing in old bobbies to police.

I tell you what, some of these young no mark scallies wouldn't know what's hit them.

Good luck getting in that lot back in a top hat - those that didn't come back in a police staff uniform a month after retiring mostly went off to be supermarket delivery drivers, cab drivers or went to Spain / the South of France.

A double edged sword theory of yours, not saying it will cure anything really bad, but maybe with a combination of other medication for chest infections not Coronavirus by the way .......but it will do no harm and maybe help some symptoms - sometimes a placebo can help any patient mentally mind wise .......
If people feel benefit please don't condemn it.......also who's to say it does not speed up the cure of a chest infection?
It's a very old remedy been used for generations.....before many modern antibiotics the GP don't work on viruses either but they write them out at will - some don't they use more practical instructions........i.e. Take more liquid rest up, take parcetomol etc .....
Thats 3 in a row
Admit it @Joey66 someone else is doing the typing @COYBL25

@TN Toffee

Totally agree with your concerns.

There's really something wrong here other than the virus. What it's going to lead to could be much more serious.

It's like all these calls for a universal base income. I get a lot of people on the left (and especially from Liverpool) are socialists. But there's socialism and then there's the government literally paying people... And it sets a precedent.

What happens to all the SMEs after this? Sure, a lot will get by but some are going to be decimated with or without the goverment's help.

I really am a bit fearful of what comes next after this. But agree for the moment we have to do what we can to get through it.

I'm of the mind that significant economic damage is unavoidable, so the worst result is to pull out of the "remedy" too soon and see the gains eroded (while still suffering the economic damage). Hopefully a gradual return to life is possible, and that people are going to exercise some caution on their own as that occurs (making the regulations more effective even while they're being reduced).

Hopefully.

I fully agree and want the government to support people (myself included).

I'd be for a universal income if it could be done fairly, but how can it be?
