Telegraph...

”The lockdown of Belgium due to the coronavirus epidemic will continue for at least the next eight weeks, health minister Maggie De Block told the De Zondag paper on Sunday.

From March 17, Belgians are only allowed to leave home to buy food, for health-related errands or to assist someone in need. Schools and universities are closed and employees of most companies have to work from home.

Non-essential travel abroad is prohibited until April 5, all gatherings are banned and police are patrolling the streets to monitor and enforce the restrictions.“.....

as bad as that is, the bit that was missed out is even worse:

I have absolutely no envy for any of them.

And nobody can say anyone would be doing better or worse for sure - though you'd like to think others would have taken more decisive action.

We just have to get through it now.

Like I said, I agree fully we should have been more prepared. It looks like at least some of them realise that.

That may well be the case but please don't pretend you aren't doing the same every chance you get.

This thing is so serious it transcends politics.

There's a scummy tories thread for everyone who wants to vent their anger at Johnson, Cummings et al. This thread should be used for posting information and being supportive for those who are being affected by this. Or is that too much to ask?

I am recycling Mail articles telling people that it isn't that bad and they should still walk around as normal, am I? That this self-isolation and businesses closing isn't worth the economic damage it is going to do?

As for the rest of your post - this is a crisis that has been and is being made worse by their actions. Take for example the herd immunity thing, which was correctly called by posters here from all ends of the political spectrum days before we were told the science has changed and that it was in fact wrong. Should people have shut up then?

I have a sneaky feeling he may have started drinking earlier than usual.
Not as funny as you may think mate. A lot of pub owners will be carrying gallons of stock that will have a limited shelf life. Given many of them are literally staring financial ruin in the face you can't blame them if they get ratfaced for a few days.

As I've said before, this crisis is affecting everybody differently and we all need to be accepting and understanding of others concerns. Even when we disagree with them.

Shoe cobblers, Timpson, will close all of its 2,150 shops starting Monday, following the coronavirus outbreak, it's chief executive has announced.

"Going into hibernation...we hope it won't be for too long," James Timpson said.

I‘ve got about 1,500 pints of the stuff and haven’t the heart to drink any of it tbh...

If only the CMO and CSA were Everton supporters this could all have been avoided......

There are people who don't know they have a deficiency (not exactly a regular thing that's checked) who wouldn't have any harm from taking up to 100 micrograms, that's my only point. My mother in law for example only found out about a deficiency she's probably had for years about two weeks ago and is now on 400iu a day.

If they took over 4000iu/100 micrograms, they're nuts of course.

Yeh I wasn't on about popping pills.

Just, you know, I don't think a bit of VD in the winter months hurts.

Luckily the weather is turning nicer (though won't matter when we're all stuck indoors).

Its kind of worrying that a load of Everton supporters chatting rubbish on a forum could predict what would happen better than the CMO and CSA though (not that it was just here who warned of the danger of what they wanted to do)? I mean read @DrEFC 's post here and find one bit of it that was wrong:

As a medic, the herd immunity thing is pure crap. If the most vulnerable in society were isolated till the rest of us (honestly 60% has been properly just pulled out of nowhere) had recovered (the end of 7 days of isolation we will likely still be shedding viruses but just not enough to likely pass it on), then we may be a suitable immunological barrier to prevent further rapid spread to those at risk of dying. The government are playing loose and fast with potentially millions who will get very unwell, and possibly a quarter million who will die.
Our Government is flying in the face of pretty much every other country in Europe, and WHO recommendations. Boris recommends schools stay open, people stay in work- but Eton is deserted, and parliament is halted, take from that what you wish.

The emails I'm getting suggest the potential for hands to the pump in the coming weeks. I'm specialised, I'd be no use in gen med or A&E anymore.

I gave a talk on it from an O&G point of view the other day- generally pregnant women who are fit and well otherwise should be fine- no increase in congenital malformations or miscarriage. Just incase an GOT'ers were worried about that kind of stuff.

great news.

I'm not really sure how I feel about skys coverage, they seem to be promoting the worst case scenario as the norm. Part of me thinks the idiots in the country need to be scared in to behaving with some social responsibility, and part of me thinks their promotion of the virus as a definitive death sentence for all is very wreckless
I've left the telly off this afternoon for this reason. I will catch up with today's news later.
Going to have a nice Sunday roast with the wife and kids for mothers day.
The wife is stood outside talking to her mum and dad and havent come in the house. I finally think they are now getting how serious this is and popping to the shops for 1 or 2 bits isn't necessary.
