And what? There is no vaccine for this virus.

You were asked to name diseases that achieved herd immunity, without vaccination, and you know this.

Just give it up ffs.
Where was the 'without vaccination' bit pal as I obviously missed that. Point that out and I'll say I was wrong with no problem.

The initial post suggest herd immunity was some kind of novel approach to virus control, when it's been in use for decades.

Well, given that I came into the UK from a heavily affected area last week without any checks being done, I'm not in the slightest bit surprised but I suppose that is more for the UK Border Agency.
Should have bought a load of gear with you.
Like paying for the train and no speccie checking tickets.

I think we could all do with being a bit less 'Dave from Wigan' or 'Piers from Good Morning Britain' and actually trust people who know what they're talking about.

Absolutely and this is why we need a state of emergency so parliament can sit. That's what they are there for. I'm not going to rely on the words of an anonymous medical professional until he has been approved by peers.

If you are going to make decisions on me and my family's life you better have your data together. I'm not seeing that. So red flags.

This isn't about trusting authority figures it's about taking care of your family. My responsibilities lie there and I won't remain mute while other families are in jeopardy either.

But we're talking about COVID-19, obviously, and herd immunity in regards to COVID-19, obviously. No one said it doesn't work but you need to have an immunisation for it to work as per the graphic:

Doing nothing doesn't flatten a peak though; I don't see any logic in that whatsoever.

Being honest, nor do I. But the top medical folk seem to think what we are doing, or at least, asking people to do, so I kinda go from them if I am honest.

Oddly enough, that one doctor created the whole MMR issue a few years back.

I agree the response of the UK needs questioning properly.

Yeh they obv know more than us I just can't wrap my head round it.

It's like the bushfires; doing nothing to them wouldn't have flattened out the peak would it haha.

If there's one thing that I've learned over the past 4 years, it's that we don't want politicians anywhere near a emergency like this.

I know nothing about it myself, so I'm willing to put my trust in experts and I'm certainly not going to criticise them.

As a medic, the herd immunity thing is pure crap. If the most vulnerable in society were isolated till the rest of us (honestly 60% has been properly just pulled out of nowhere) had recovered (the end of 7 days of isolation we will likely still be shedding viruses but just not enough to likely pass it on), then we may be a suitable immunological barrier to prevent further rapid spread to those at risk of dying. The government are playing loose and fast with potentially millions who will get very unwell, and possibly a quarter million who will die.
Our Government is flying in the face of pretty much every other country in Europe, and WHO recommendations. Boris recommends schools stay open, people stay in work- but Eton is deserted, and parliament is halted, take from that what you wish.

The emails I'm getting suggest the potential for hands to the pump in the coming weeks. I'm specialised, I'd be no use in gen med or A&E anymore.

I gave a talk on it from an O&G point of view the other day- generally pregnant women who are fit and well otherwise should be fine- no increase in congenital malformations or miscarriage. Just incase an GOT'ers were worried about that kind of stuff.
