China obviously lying about their numbers

They are, just like Russia will and Iran until yesterday. It could be because they don't have the testing kits. To a certain extent our own figures may be 23 days out of date. Governments are managing the data.

The bottom line is, there is no escaping this. That doesn't mean we put our heads between our legs and kiss our ass goodbye. The numbers at this stage are irrelevant.

Instead the pertinent point is, whatever the numbers coming in, self-isolating, basic hygiene are effective methods in combating this threat.

I think we have been panicked into a complete shutdown. The selfish and quite disgraceful scenes at supermarkets says it all. Of course it’s worked out well for some. in France, Macron no longer has the yellow vests to worry about. Everyone has a perfect excuse to close borders. Draconian powers are being granted to governments and eagerly supported by a cowering population. And yet, as we all watch in panic that another 50,60, 70 per day have died, we forget about the other 1500+ that died in the same day. Remember too all the other viruses, Bird Flu, Sars etc etc that were going to wipe us out, but somehow didn’t, yet now we rush headlong to destroy the economy, the only thing that actually keeps us going, as well as our sanity.

I will get a letter tomorrow telling me that I must stay indoors for 12 weeks and the Police will be given authority to arrest me if I venture out. This is not life, this is absolute cowardice driven by the media. Boris has caved in to the ‘if you do something you can’t be blamed’ crowd. He should have stuck with the advice of the CMO and CSA and given two fingers to the media, and the calls for lockdown.

Many on here have been doom mongering about falling off a cliff edge with Brexit, but that will pass so smoothly now because no one will even notice any difference and at least we won’t be picking up the bill for the absolute financial turmoil that will hit Europe. We will be far too busy trying to recover from this ridiculous decision to close our economy....
Sorry mate but this is utter nonsense

I take it you have a fever, because even for you politicking standards that is gibberish.
Even to err on the side of caution isn't destroying the econony.
Which bit of 'some people are on the front line' have you never accepted?
Absolute pants of a post Pete ffs.

I have no fever. I also have no worries, perhaps that is why I see this for what it is. If you cannot see that the economy is being destroyed, then just watch the closures that will follow next...

There is no legitimate evidence that taking vitamins is beneficial unless you have a lab documented deficiency.
Too much vitamin A and D can be toxic.

I take vitamins and a fish oil tab every two days.

Not saying they'll stop this virus at all, but since I started (three months ago) I've felt healthier. They're not the only thing. I've been mixing my exercise up and have gone veggie since the New Year - that's helped me feel like I have more energy.

My thing with this is I don't see why the advice hasn't also been that people need to start keeping themselves as healthy as possible. If you have a better immune system then you are likelier to get mild symptoms if you catch this virus than not.

Of course it's no sure thing but I'd rather do everything in my power to try and stack the odds in my favour rather than the viruses if you get me.

I don't think it's nonsense tbf.

I'm not saying this isn't serious. It clearly is and more serious than those other epidemics/viruses Pete mentions.

But there's definitely questions to be asked once this all ends - whenever that is.

We're heading for the biggest economic downturn since WWII. And the question has to be asked why.

Because putting it bluntly, it is not because those in charge care about old or vulnerable people. They don't.

Australia
Stage 1, for 6mths, reviewed monthly.
Pubs, cinemas etc, food outlets, takeaways only
Basically if the public dont toe the line on this
Stage 2, will be harder...and will arrive sooner.

Offys in Qld & Tas not classed as pubs, but business premises.

Schools not to close - yet. Butwill close as and when their term ends for Easter...I doubt they'll reopen myself
If you keep you kids off, they are your responsibility...sad that he has to say this

Oh, I meant on a personal note, not a general note. My wife and I have been fortunate that we are both able to work from home with full pay(even tho I do full time anyways). We have tons of friends in the restaurant industry, I've no idea how to help them right now. I can't go and tip really high, I can't go bring them out for food or anything. It's unbelievably tough for probably HUNDREDS of millions worldwide on that note. The worst is yet to come, just hope it peaks quicker than anticipated.

So do I. But then again I don't because that's going to mean more deaths.

Only have to hope that with Italy there are other deciding factors - like the general health of their population (age, a lot more smokers etc) that are playing a part here (and I know the US and UK aren't exactly shining beacons when it comes to 'healthy living').

its not even his nonsense, but he should be applauded for recycling in these troubled times

Thing is though he's not wrong about certain aspects of it. Why weren't all the western governments more proactive instead of reactive, when they had ample warning time, for example? The impact on the economy would still be big, but not as big as it has been if more measures to ensure the health systems were better prepared were in place.

I think you can say that without taking away from how dire and new the situation is.

The economy was heading west anyway because tge economic model was flawed and vulerable, this way the pretence of capitalism can be upheld and the blame placed elsewhere.
The question must be why people were so self interested to allow the most vulnerable in society pay the price for excessive greed through voting for the likes of Cummings, de Pfeffel et al?

Because the Chancellor has said, don’t worry he will pay 80% up to £2500 a month for employees, watch what happens with companies who have decided it’s now cheaper to close than attempt to stay open......
