Quite a way for me to go I guess

Could be worse

A bum off will probably be the least of our worries in a couple of weeks, just wait until Sky sports unleash the piss stained pigeon fiddler Aldo as their main anchor man and you'll know we are deep in the brown stuff... The ultimate bum off one might say to one's friends at ones dinner party

There will be less colds, less coughs, sneezes, well apart from the hayfever, in the summer.

But considering that English summers consist of 3 days of sunshine its not much to hold out for sadly.

Yeh I don't think it's weather as such but it's just naturally coming out of a season where illnesses are more likely.

This time of year - people are always ill. With very similar symptoms (sore throat, bit of a sniffle) to the lesser symptoms of this virus. And that's down to the change in seasons and even air pressure as we get warmer again. I know it sounds really simple and even a bit daft but it really is the case - every year around now I usually get a bit of a sore throat or feel a bit off for a few days and then I'm fine. And I'm not really someone who gets ill a lot.

But in the summer there's less about. People are - usually, obviously - able to get out more and be more active and you don't get those bugs.

I think they're hoping that it's just they can avoid everything else by the time the summer comes around. There shouldn't be as much other stuff knocking about which is impacting people's immune systems and leaving them more vulnerable to this.

Also, people need to be taking more and more vitamins and getting as much exercise as possible atm. I know it's boring but it really is key - and why we aren't getting this info wide scale is beyond me and frustrating.

It's not gonna stop you getting it but if you can be taking vitamin A and D and getting fresh air and exercise your immune system is going to be stronger.

No mucking about - but does anyone else think the self-isolation will be done by first week of April? Particularly the WFH stuff.

I'm being very strict on it - have barely left the house in the last ten days with virtually no visitors - but wonder if we are genuinely looking at another 4-6 weeks lockdown

One week down....who the hell knows how much longer to go.

If the worst thing that happens is boredom then it's not the worst thing, is it?

Nope that's true.

But for a lot of people who don't get the illness, 'boredom' isn't the worst thing that's happened or going to happen unfortunately.

Losing jobs and income etc.

I know you aren't been flippant or anything, not having a go here. Just saying, it's messed up a lot more than just people not being able to go to the pub.

Hope you haven't been impacted or, if you have, you're getting compensated.

As in people will be bored of it or the government will lift the measures?

Personally I've always stuck by that I can't see this going on for longer than six weeks (like this) but based on the latest government plans it would seem we'd then I'd probably alternate on and off between the measures through the next six months.

God knows, tbh.

Showing the best and the worst of human behaviour this is. We would do well to remember the workers currently keeping the country ticking over, the people risking their own health to maintain ours, the local heroes putting themselves out to try to give something something back, however small, and compare it to the feckless, the panic-buyers, the conspiracy nuts, the billionaires asking for taxpayers money.

Prime minister here in Aus has just announced a load of financial stimulus and safety nets for workers and business but he said these measures are in place for 6 months. At least. If you are based in the UK mate honestly, 4-6 weeks is incredibly optimistic. Things there are tracking closely with how Italy tracked over the first 2 or 3 weeks from first confirmed case. If I were you I'd be thinking a period of 2-3 months in lockdown. It's only going to get worse before it gets better, not just in the UK.

Oh, I meant on a personal note, not a general note. My wife and I have been fortunate that we are both able to work from home with full pay(even tho I do full time anyways). We have tons of friends in the restaurant industry, I've no idea how to help them right now. I can't go and tip really high, I can't go bring them out for food or anything. It's unbelievably tough for probably HUNDREDS of millions worldwide on that note. The worst is yet to come, just hope it peaks quicker than anticipated.

That's an interesting one mate. I think it is ultra-serious, don't get me wrong, and I think the curfew stuff is the right thing. It just feels a bit unimaginable that we'll all be kept in our homes beyond mid-April, and more likely there will be surges (and re-quarantines) for the next six months rather than a full lockdown.

Honestly mate I think the gravity of the situation means longer term lockdown is the only way they can control the spread and more importantly keep essential services running. Italy initially tried to do localised quarantine but it didnt work and the UK has so far followed a similar trajectory in terms of infection rates. Personally feel it's better to prepare for the worst here and if things pan out differently then it's a bonus but with the stress and underfunding of the NHS and public services in general before covid 19 I think the UK will have to take more dramatic measures very soon and they will be in play for a long time.
