No mucking about - but does anyone else think the self-isolation will be done by first week of April? Particularly the WFH stuff.

I'm being very strict on it - have barely left the house in the last ten days with virtually no visitors - but wonder if we are genuinely looking at another 4-6 weeks lockdown
Honest answer - sadly no.

But I think we will have a better handle on what we are dealing with and what our collective (government/individual) responses are to it are. I’m hopeful that once the reality sinks in people will surprise on the upside.

And by your actions you’ll have more confidence that a) you know your own status (selfish but all of us have those thoughts) b) done all you could to contain the spread to others.

In a world that seems suddenly unstable the latter “do no harm” in particular is one I am clinging to.

Personally I reckon it's going to be longer than that. No idea what's happening.

Yeh I don't think it's weather as such but it's just naturally coming out of a season where illnesses are more likely.

This time of year - people are always ill. With very similar symptoms (sore throat, bit of a sniffle) to the lesser symptoms of this virus. And that's down to the change in seasons and even air pressure as we get warmer again. I know it sounds really simple and even a bit daft but it really is the case - every year around now I usually get a bit of a sore throat or feel a bit off for a few days and then I'm fine. And I'm not really someone who gets ill a lot.

But in the summer there's less about. People are - usually, obviously - able to get out more and be more active and you don't get those bugs.

I think they're hoping that it's just they can avoid everything else by the time the summer comes around. There shouldn't be as much other stuff knocking about which is impacting people's immune systems and leaving them more vulnerable to this.

Also, people need to be taking more and more vitamins and getting as much exercise as possible atm. I know it's boring but it really is key - and why we aren't getting this info wide scale is beyond me and frustrating.

It's not gonna stop you getting it but if you can be taking vitamin A and D and getting fresh air and exercise your immune system is going to be stronger.

There is no legitimate evidence that taking vitamins is beneficial unless you have a lab documented deficiency.
Too much vitamin A and D can be toxic.

Honestly? Probably. I think it will depend on the country, but here in the states I see a long isolation as impossible, and probably in many other countries.

At this point I give it 2 weeks, maybe three. Because of the initial fear people will comply and obey, and many will seek to be part of the solution. But after being stuck inside for several weeks and seeing jobs, work, lives go down the toilet for humans who are naturally social animals, you will see a large portion start to say its not worth it, we have either flattened the curve already, or it was a failure. If serious change has happened by then, people will say "job done". If nothing has changed, people will say "its pointless to isolate".

Plus, in about 3-4 weeks is when the first drugs for treating cases of it will start hitting popular use and more will be known about it, meaning a lower fatality/critical rate. Theres only so long you can tell people "You cant have friends, you cant work, you're business has to fold, we wont deal with your reprobate neighbor because the courts are closed". Once the first people start breaking it, the more will follow regardless of whether its a good idea or bad idea.

My 2 cents.

That's an interesting one mate. I think it is ultra-serious, don't get me wrong, and I think the curfew stuff is the right thing. It just feels a bit unimaginable that we'll all be kept in our homes beyond mid-April, and more likely there will be surges (and re-quarantines) for the next six months rather than a full lockdown.

I don't think they can take that risk, especially as the virus can take 2 weeks to develop. So basically the numbers are going to shoot up even though the schools/pubs/restaurants have closed. If in 3 weeks time it is still climbing which there is every possibility as normal life appears to be going on in the shops/parks today then I can only see more draconian measures being introduced where people are forced to stay indoors rather than being asked to. This will also mean total shop closures.

Then you have to wait 2 weeks from that point to see which way the tide is flowing, already that is 5 weeks from now and you would think the last measure would be given at least a month to help take effect. That puts us to the week ending around the 10th of May if things go extremely well imho, but it isn't hard to see why you can add a week or a couple of weeks to each stage.

I think the whole heat thing is to do with Windows being opened and people generally being outside more. Think even the flu can survive hot temps but it's how we act that slows the spread compared to winter when we're huddled indoors more and doors/windows are shut
Is the correct answer. It's worth remembering that your normal body temperature is about 36 degrees and the virus obviously thrives there, so a few warm days won't kill it
