Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

No mucking about - but does anyone else think the self-isolation will be done by first week of April? Particularly the WFH stuff.

I'm being very strict on it - have barely left the house in the last ten days with virtually no visitors - but wonder if we are genuinely looking at another 4-6 weeks lockdown

The official line from my work is not to expect to be back before beginning of May. My boss said more privately that we'll likely be out for at least the 1st half of May too and maybe all of it. Wondering how that is gonna be as I've been very strict in about the same timeframe

Very similar position but on the support staff side. No idea how many students we are dealing with but a primary feeder school had 120+ requests out of 280 kids. Some parents aren't getting the criteria right or not taking it seriously. We're hoping demand will fall off quickly but who knows.
I had one hour on Friday to prep staff and circumstances for tomorrow. It seems a lot of people think it's fun to piss about with other people's situations, and though I'm sympathetic that some won't be able to get sh1tfaced for a while, ffs get a grip, other people are actually stepping up for others here.

It's gonna be horrible for school staff tomorrow. Plenty of kicking off from self important idiots at the school gate - need to have the police there were possible and a zero tolerance approach.

Another problem caused by failing to reveal a specific list of key workers and clear rules about it until nearly 48 hours after the announcement of schools closing. That goes for the press and media as well who failed to push the issue and ask for relevant specifics while Johnson waffled on about turning tides.

While a nice touch just having 30 minutes between 0730-0800 won't help a huge number of NHS staff. Would be better to have a rotating hour throughout the week or maybe even section off part of the store and have a percentage of items reserved for them....would take some logistical creativity and then there's still the issue of bellends trying to get at it.

So as this thing takes root in our society I think one key defining point will be the extent to which people feel personally threatened and at risk.

What i mean is say if a 40yr healthy man gets the virus early on, has mild or negligible symptoms and then gets over it. Can they get it again? Can they act as a carrier and pass it on to someone else?

It seems if the answers above are no and no then that type of person (and it could be a 18yr old girl or a 65yr old man) either is not going to want to stay locked up or, as a country, could be used better on the frontline services.

Any thoughts?

Its something I've been thinking about. Those who have recovered and the healthy young ones wont want to self isolate for 3 months. Are we better getting them back into society in a month time

the current information is they can’t get it again but until we get the testing organised we don’t just really know so it doesn’t really help us unfortunately.

I've been in work this weekend and a couple of the lads here are sniffing and coughing. I told them they were massively irresponsible for coming in.but there answer was they didn't wanna miss out on overtime. They'll just take next week off instead. Its because of morons like this that we are in big big trouble. Good luck everyone

Not sure if people who get it twice will be able to pass it on the second time. Thinking about it you can get the same strain of flu twice but the symptoms are much lesser second time but surely you can still pass it on? Any docs on here?

It’s going to be 3 months, minimum imo.

FWIW I suspect the number of cases reported is only a very tiny fraction of the real number of infected. Most will have the virus and recover naturally, never making the official figures. Therefore I suspect the mortality rate as a % of infections is much lower than the 5% or so being reported now. That could be the silver lining here.

it seemed so likely that the herd immunity stuff was Emanating from a fan of eugenics like Cummings

"herd immunity" was quickly dropped because the language was obnoxious, callous and idiotic. That's not to say it wasn't implemented and might still remain policy. Make no mistake governments knew about this from January at the latest.

It still might work, in fact in could be our best option. I don't personally believe that but decisions were made by elected officials through the democratic process. So it becomes a mute point at this time.

Our only decision right now has to be follow guidelines. Act responsibly. Literally every individual is the key to beating this thing.

It will be darkest before the dawn and we're not even at midnight yet. Already we're seeing tremendous acts of kindness and charity. It's actions like that which utterly convince me we will get through this.

It will take fortitude, steady heads, compassion, faith and belief.
