1712 new infections yesterday, the lowest in nearly 8 months.

The rate has dipped below 2000 a couple of times previously but never stayed there consistently. All schools are back next week though, but I'm not sure if they are still carrying out twice weekly testing. The Gov said they would be doing so up until Easter at least so not sure what is happening. Hopefully they will be doing as they were catching over a 1000 asymptomatic cases some days.

The ONS weekly survey sample also shows infection rates continuing to fall with 1 in 610 people having the virus week ending 16 April.

It's about now that we should start seeing any reaction to the latest opening up of the economy earlier this month.

One thing the U.K. are doing well is managing this among young people, over here 75% of our cases are under 45, with a median age of 24.

Maybe the power of the vaccine at play...but the U.K. seem to be able to manage that cohort better then us, especially since we are still in a strict lock down and you guys have opened up.

Was Thierry Breton he took over as the EU vaccine Tsar last month, he’s doing great in terms of sorting supply, EU are gone into Turbo boost. We hit 25% first doses on Friday from about 10% a few weeks ago, we’ve 10% fully vaccinated.

Believe that massive deal with Pfizer is being signed in a couple of days. 900 mill doses a year up to the end of 2023.

Really believe though all the EU countries should send 10% of their doses to India though and anything else they can supply wise to help manage there.
Only 14,03M done in France.

U.K. vaccines....641K given yesterday (including 498K second doses) .....total first jabs 33,666,638 ....total second vaccinations 12,587,116....giving a total of 46,253,754 jabs given....we have now given a first jab to over half the country including children, and second jabs to over 20% of the population. I am really proud of the efforts made by everyone in the U.K....

Just over 20 % of first doses, 8% fully vaccinated, clocking somewhere between 400k - 450k a day at the mo. France could have done better admittedly.

Could have done better...ffs the U.K. has done more first jabs and more second jabs than France and Germany added together. They, and the rest of the EU, have been an absolute shambles. NI has given more than 50% of its population a first jab and more than 20% of its population a second jab......

Brazil "coming down" is like Edmund Hilary's first step down after climbing Everest, unfortunately.
Brazil had just over double our highest daily 'deaths' at their peak.. and with 3.5 times our population I think it needs to be looked at like for like, but yes any deaths are awful. However the problems with these countries like Brazil and India is that they have no where near the medical facilities other countries have, so hospitals quickly become overrun. Either way hopefully it's on the decline..

I really fear for the people of Brazil and India. They are in deep [Poor language removed]. The U.K., USA and EU need to put some effort into helping them out......

But it is very hard to look at “like to like” when testing rates are not the same and so trust in official cases/deaths figures are going to vary widely.

The U.K. have done a wonderful rollout the NHS have been amazing, the U.K. needed it, it was the worst hit country in Europe. So it’s lovely to see them get on now.

I really admire some of the science, bravery of decisions in the U.K. rollout - I was against a lot of them - so would hold my hands up in error on the anecdotal evidence thus far on reflection - in fact I’d encourage our own lads here to learn from your own apparent thus far success. You know my opinion on supply and imports/exports, on that issue I wouldn’t swap morally the EU position with the UKs, nor the States similar policy for that matter, which I think is equally morally corrupt - especially when you see what’s going on globally. That’s something we wont agree on as we haven’t so many times.

Clinically I have a nagging thought and maybe a personal concern that a latter dose in the summer might be desirable, I was done in Jan & Feb, how protected am am I going to be in Oct - we don’t know yet. So at this stage if I was unvaccinated, I’d kind of want to be getting it July - Sep, like most of the young people will be.

It’s good news for us the figures in the U.K. and the North, we have a grand buffer between us and mainland Europe now and even 90 mins up the road at the border - fair play to yee!
