Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

see again like the doctor above this really puzzles and frankly now concerns me . He is In hospital with pneumonia and suspected of having covid-19 well unless they waiting for the test results to confirm why aren’t they waiting for the test results ?

if these anecdotal stories are true then they are worrying , Other countries are rolling out mass testing and it would seem we aren’t even testing those suspected of having the virus . Now ultimately there may be more to this and perhaps we have to trust those at the sharp end and look beyond tweets but if taken at face value it certainly seems to raise questions .

Underlying conditions.

I did initially post a reply saying I was prepared to side with medical experts on this as I felt there was more to it than the initial tweet , Just when taken with the LBC correspondent statement I wondered if it was a change in tack . Let’s face it we’ve seen a couple of them the last few days.

What they've (rightly) done is try to put the fear into the younger in society so they stop acting like bells and going about their usual business.

Yes, younger people will get sick, some seriously, but in reality they won't be dying from this. That's the truth of it; all they're doing is... not "lying" as such but playing up the negative of the disease and downplaying the positive so as to get people to take it seriously.

So vulnerable high risks groups? Is this just elderly or any age ranges?

Elderly and people with underlying health issues (which does just count unhealthy people too – you know, if you've smoked 20 a day for the last 20 years).

They're the same people that are more vulnerable to any illness.

That's not to take away from the seriousness of this btw. It's clearly very serious. But, it's not unlike any other illness in that the people it effects most are those with weaker immune systems (for whatever reason).

Lockdown still allows for people to go shopping/medical services if you’ve been paying attention to the news.

Not under Goat's thing it didn't. I know he was half-joking.

The experts have stressed how important everyone being as healthy as possible is in this as well. Part of being healthy is not being cooped up indoors.

I have been paying attention to the news.

There has to be a balance. If you're in a rural area and can avoid close contact with people anyway what's the harm in being able to go for a walk or a run?

A lot of people are going to get this and the ones who will get it badly will, 9/10 or whatever, be people who aren't healthy for one reason or another. So the healthier you can be while still being wary of others, the better, surely?

I occasionally do 16 hr shifts as an RN. The 1st 14 hours or so are a breeze, then it kicks in hard. And for now where I am its thankfully business as usual so the stress levels even on a bad day is uncomparable to the front lines. It takes a good 8-10 hours to recover. keep in mind the staff has a lack of equipment so they are going to have use what they've learned to improvise. A patient who can't breathe naturally panics and starts beathing faster, which is counterproductive and you have calm them down. Even breaks would become a pain in the ass if you can't even leave the ISO ward in the same uni you walked in with.

I don't know what it's like in the bigger cities but around me, every night this week the pubs have been empty. Open, but empty.

Me and my mates were going to go on Wednesday but decided against it. Most people are listening to the advice. Most of the people who are still going about their business as normal are the elderly. Me and my mum have just had to convince my grandma (who lives alone and is in the early stages of dementia) she really doesn't have to go for a pub lunch today. My mum has been seeing her every day because my aunt is currently in isolation because of my cousin (who had a flu jab on Monday) having a cough and fever (which has now gone and he's totally better, but they're having to follow the advice).

But it all boils down to the west been totally inept in preparing for this imo - Europe and us as a whole. We had weeks or warning to get ourselves ready. Increase the number of available beds etc, requisite private hospitals etc, increase the production of ventilators. Basically, do all we can to protect the vulnerable groups in advance, without crashing the economy.

We acted too late and now are paying the price in lives that are going to be absolutely ruined by this (and I'm not even talking about me here, as @Nymzee has rightly pointed out the other day, I'm still young so at the end of the day I hope there'll be opportunities which come up again). But entire businesses and families are going to be devastated and for the government to support all of them is going to ultimately just lead to another 10 years of cuts and cuts.

We're going to be three times - at least - worse off after this in terms of debt-to-GDP ratio than we were in 2010, according to predictions. European countries are going to be even worse. It's really scary.

Was a bit unsure as to whether I had it or not after feeling better yesterday, but chest hurt going to bed last night and does so even more this morning. Glad I self-isolated as soon as I felt ill.

Good to hear.

I had a slight sore throat but took paracetamol going to bed for a couple of nights and fine now DG.

Avoid using ibuprofen products unless GP advises.

Dunno mate. Requires a bit of common sense doesn't it? I'm taking it as given that my wife has it, so we're both self-isolating. I don't really know how many tests are available, but I think my wife said that the mobile unit that was by her clinic had stopped this week, so I do wonder if there's a big enough supply of tests as it doesn't really make sense to limit what is a largely harmless procedure otherwise.

How is she doing Bruce?

I don’t understand her point. Three MONTHS from now puts us in late June. If you look at the image she’s posted late June peak lines up with the lowest death rate and smoothest curve.

People with agendas all over the shop.

Agree. Just fixed typo mate.
