Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Don't be so silly.

The initial outbreak was what, the middle of Jan. We knew it was serious because of how it was spreading like wildfire.

We knew it was a respiratory disease and that the elderly/people with underlying health issues would the most effected.

You step up production of everything that will help protect those people in advance. We clearly didn't do enough of it.

Nobody is saying this was preventable. But we could definitely have done more to help protect those that will be impacted by this than we did, without ruining the lives of many people (who if they get this, will get it mildly at worst).

The impact on our economy going forward is what is going to do far more damage than this illness itself. I think you can say that without negating just how bad this virus is if you get a full dose of it.

The thing is, it's a global problem now, so unless you shut down every single border, it will come back after the initial quarantine because you have reduced the number of people who have built up immunity. China, for instance, is getting new cases due to Chinese people returning home.

Totally agree Bruce.

Like i've said I'm not trying to claim this was in anyway preventable en masse. But surely more could have been done?

And yes, all these people saying 'oh let's just lockdown for a few months' - I know they aren't taking it lightly - but that in no way is going to guarantee we stop the problem. And then in three months, when people are going back out and there's gatherings taking place, then it all comes around again.

I keep saying but as far as we know the only way to beat this virus (and appreciate it's no sure-fire thing) is to get it and get some form of immunity.

It's here to stay so I don't get how people hiding away from it like it's lingering outside your windows is going to do any good in the long run.

I'm not thick. I know these measures are to slow the infection rate down and hopefully they work. But in the long run until there's a vaccine, there's only one answer of how to be immune to it.

I'm just ranting, theres others worse off than me. In the very worst case, I get a full months money at the end of next week and just have to make that last.
You just have to budget it mate.I have done the same and put myself on 20 euro a day.I haven't spent anything since Monday and will not need to until next Tuesday. The fact that there is no place to go helps in that respect.I'm pretending it's Christmas and wouldn't leave the house for 2 weeks anyway. That's just how I am dealing with it.

It is so the NHS isn't overwhelmed, which would see the mortality rate rocket. That is why people are "hiding away from it".

You are coming across as quite thick mate. This isn't difficult stuff to understand.

My mrs has been up half the night with a fever and a rancid cough so we're in isolation for 14 days now.

Lucky I can work from home. Johnson needs to get on it with the tests, it's poor AF having to self-isolate for 2 weeks when it probably isn't even Covid-19, as paracetamol bought her temperature under control and her cough has improved this morning. Got to think of other people though, haven't you?

If you work in a pub, gym or restaurant and you only get paid if you turn up then you have to go. Not everyone can just afford to say "I'm not working today." Most people can't.

Anyone who can work from home is pretty much doing so now. I'm sorry, nobody should be getting on their high horse about people who can't. Once they are shut it is a different story. You can't have a go at people for working and earning money they need to keep themsleves and their families going.

That point in bold. So you're saying we couldn't have been better prepared i.e. more beds available (take over private hospitals in advance maybe?), step up the production of ventilators etc.

We knew this was coming and did nothing. And now the only measures which can be taken are the lockdown ones and even that won't be enough.

So of course we could have done more.

Erm, where am I having a go at those that work in restaurants/pubs/gyms? I never said such a thing I am having a go at those who don't work but still go to these places such as yourself with the gym so back down ol' lad.

Every massively hit country and even ones less so than us are going into lockdown so maybe the entire world could have done more. Nothing we're doing in the UK is unique to us we're just delayed.
