How the hell do we ever recover from this?
Hard work, our ancestors came back from similar things and worse, the plague, Spanish flu, other pandemics, 2 world wars, famine. Now it's our turn, we are living history now and our children our grand children and their children and so on will learn about this in history class, they'll learn about how we recovered from this, that chapter has yet to be written, we should every one of us make it a chapter that our descendents will be proud to read.

On the evidence so far We’ve got a way to go then, doesn’t mean it’s not possible though .

Wednesday they announced the closure of schools with the exception of pupils whose parents are "key workers". They also, inexplicably, announced that the list of those who qualify as key workers wouldn't be made known till Thursday.

At Thursdays briefing they didn't mention key workers and have yet to do so even though it's gone 7pm on Thursday. The fact that people might have to make plans to care for their kids seems lost on the Prime Minister but then his idea of fatherhood is feckless absenteeism so no surprise there.

There was mentions of "turning the tide" though when pushed Johnson couldn't actually give a clear definition of what turning the tide actually meant in terms that relate to a viral pandemic.
The list of children is currently being compiled (at least it is in Liverpool) and the schools are being selected where these children will be taught.

All police were told to inform bosses by midnight last night if they would need the service, so it’s not going to simply be done on a whim for people to misuse.

If your child isn’t invited, they aren’t going in to where ever they’ll be sent to. Most schools are preparing to be open on Monday as a precaution.

There are headteachers on Twitter asking for a confirmed list of occupations that qualify as key workers and whether or not both parents have to be key workers. There are one or two "unofficial" lists with no actual source floating about and a fair bit of guesswork but nothing from the powers that be to answer a simple question that they created.

It's baffling incompetence - even for a Government that continually finds high profile roles for Chris Grayling.

Really? I just don't see how we're so far behind Italy (even with the measures in place).

The economy is going to be shot. Obviously not just for us, but everywhere.

We're at what, 3% debt ratio compared to our GDP right now (after 10 years of austerity). It's going to be up at 30-35% they're predicting inside 10-12 weeks.

For perspective, wasn't it around 10% when Labour were last in power?
Yes really. I mean a positive spin. Doesn't wash with me as I believe we have worse times to come

All his talk of a collective effort by the public is made worthless when people are out selfishly panic buying through fear of missing out. 3 supermarkets I went to today had completely empty freezers. Never seen anything like it.

Nope. The whole shebang has to have a reset, because modern life, greed, the lust for power and profit has lead to such a fragile system that can be brought to its knees so readily.
This hasn't been unexpected, far from it, but little if any preparation was there. In the UK the parlous state of the NHS has left its staff out in the open after years of austerity. Community spirit has all but evaporated since the early 80s, replaced by right wing jongoism and the selfishness so evident recently.
Nature has a way of reeling things in when they get out of hand and before it's too late we need to respect the planet first and work up from that. I have little faith it'll happen though.

Sounds like you’re working in the wrong profession.

Nope I just deal with kids that most people on social media moan about. Some of them do need a good hiding to knock some respect into them. I’m actually very good at what I do and actually managed to turn kids lives around that some schools can’t. I’ve actually managed to teach kids young as 15, to be site ready in construction for when they leave school. We’ve managed to get kids into full time employment and get them apprenticeships and some now run there own companies.

Some of the kids I teach do actually need a good hiding because they wouldn't be going round in gangs and bullying people.
