Talk about mixed messages, the government are saying in no uncertain terms that everyone should socially distance themselves away at home and that the whole severity and timeframe of the situation depends on it. But it isn't an order that will be enforced...hmmm.

Sounds like to me it is an easy out to blame the people that were up and about rather than lock everything down to hopefully get on top of this within say a month.

I haven't seen any stats for healthcare (or the NHS specifically), but the Economist had an interesting piece about the retail supply chain and that if around 10% of the workforce were sick, they'd be in deep doo doo. Given the high likelihood of sickness among the medical fraternity, I wonder what their own figures look like?
One of the early cases in California had dozens of healthcare workers going into isolation because it took a week for the test results to come back so many were exposed and no testing available. Combine those quarantining just in case with those who have symptoms and add in much higher than normal workloads I dread to think what the staffing figures look like :(

I think it's more a mixture of necessity (mobilising resources) while trying to maintain a democratic way of life where the public choose to oblige rather than be forced.

At some point, I full expect that more draconian measures will be be put in place, which will be enforced, but that is at least a week off bar a massive spike.

Slightly more positive conference, however i think hes probably been advised to deliver some positive news to lift spirit of the nation.

I still think we are some way off the worst of this.

Really? I just don't see how we're so far behind Italy (even with the measures in place).

The economy is going to be shot. Obviously not just for us, but everywhere.

We're at what, 3% debt ratio compared to our GDP right now (after 10 years of austerity). It's going to be up at 30-35% they're predicting inside 10-12 weeks.

For perspective, wasn't it around 10% when Labour were last in power?
