People have their own strategies for dealing with things though - if taking it day by day helps someone be able to get up in the morning and do stuff rather than sinking into depression then thinking of just the here and now is the best thing for them.

Indeed. I envisage that what we're seeing now will be the state of play for at least the next 9 months. Hope I'm wrong because I'll be even more annoying than I am now.
