the fact that we have internet in full speed makes things worse, it is like the plague or WW2 days but you hear and read everything, brain cannot process it and gives 404. At least if this was 100 years ago I would have minded my business in my yard, reading and working, just checking radio few times a day. disasters/outbreaks in globalised world for you.

Indeed, and if Boris announced that social media sites - especially eBay and the other ones used by the profiteers - would be closed down for the duration it would be a very sensible move indeed

It bears repeating that the mortality rate isn't anywhere near that, just as the actual infected rate will be much, much higher than that.

The reality is most people won't be hospitalised and therefore not tested.

Plus, the fatality rate isn't from the same group tested on that day - it's from other previously admitted/tested patients.

The true fatality rate is around 1%.

Heard that too.

Makes sense when you think about it, as there’s still a lot they can do and have to offer.

I'd be wary of that last bit - they could do probably as much work as police staff rather than sworn officers.

To swear them all back and have them walk the streets / maintain curfews they'd need to be issued gear, have catchup training and don't forget are in higher risk categories than most of the rest of the cops are. You could use them to replace officers in back-office functions (who ironically are mostly in back office functions because of the cuts to police staff numbers from 2010 onwards) and get a lot more out of it, but it isn't risk-free either given that the reduction in police stations means they are mostly all a lot bigger now with more staff (and more for the virus to target).

It would also be worth finding out what the overall number of deaths is as well, which might suggest whether care to the non-COVID patients is suffering (all the evidence suggests that it probably is).

There's no doubt that's going to be the case.

Hell, postponing non-urgent operations is all the proof you need of that.

At the height of this, and I assume now in Italy, unless you're literally dying from a non-COVID issue, people will be staying in their homes and coping, because what's the point of going to hospital, catching COVID-19 and pretty much definitely dying if you have the other issue too?

On ITV news Today they used a clip from Scrubs a fictional TV programme to show how easy viruses can spread... talk about whipping people into a frenzy.
Excuse me for having my tinfoil hat on and questioning everything they're telling us but for me not much about this so called Pandemic adds up.

What doesn't add up? Virus, spreading rapidly over continents, killing people = pandemic.

That's all you need to know.

The fatality rate of 1% doesn’t seem that bad, but this thing is showing no signs of stopping soon, and the death toll could be in the hundreds of thousands by the summer with millions infected.
