My main concern is why we as a western society (I mean the west in general) aren't prepared and ready to protect our most vulnerable.
And before anyone says anything, I voted Labour last year, btw.
The country nearly comes to a standstill with a bit of snow. What did you expect lolBtw I totally get why they've had to cancel Glasto in terms of their lead up time and supplier contracts etc.
They'd have had to start construction work in the next few weeks i guess, plus all the contractors and things. I get it.
But it's depressing thoughts and infuriating tbh.
How ill-prepared Europe and the west were - almost like our petty squabbles over Brexit for the last 3 and a half years were utterly pointless, ey? – should wake all the governments up. But no, they'll just point fingers.
@COYBL25Our only factory maker in ireland manufacturer turns out 500 per year worldwide, orders paid for he was on LBC yesterday and stated Hancock was asking for something that was unachievable.... in the UK.....
Again more Government propaganda - then a top ITC Dr came on and stated it did not matter at present as not enough staff or beds to use the specialist ventilators = 1 in 100,000 available to the General public. atm....
I guess he just likes to bully beefHe's either suggesting rape or battering a woman there, what's he like eh???
There is plenty more to this virus I believe than what is being reported. The fact China are again at the forefront is in no way surprising.
The more I think about it, the explanation given as to how this all started is a little strange.
Anyway, I mainly hope the panic subsides soon enough. Went to the shops earlier to buy some nappies, it's was a nightmare. Spoke to the staff at several shops and we were all in aggreance people are losing their minds.
I think governments worldwide could be and should be doing more and better to alay the fears and concerns of everyone.
Every cloud.....Eastenders have had to put a hold on filming. So not all bad news today.
What do you want the west to have done? Have anyone 60+ cabined up somewhere just because maybe we need to protect them.
So you reckon an income of 25k means you can be classed as wealthy
That's not far above minimum wage
Where did I use the word wealthy ?
And by the way, £25k is miles above minimum wage.
thereREALLY ????
there
No. Not at all. The exact opposite. People need to be able to live their lives to the fullest extent possible. Which is what will kill them right now so a slightly contradictory statement when you say the goverment doesn't do enough to protect them.
I'm simply pointing out it shows how unprepared the governments were but also in terms of our healthcare systems, and how it is funded and prepared to handle these situations. Our healthcare system is handling this fine, the deaths/positive cases ration is still really strong, the country is moving things around to provide a lot more beds and hopefully vents when needed before the peak.
And then in society in general. Maybe a positive will be that everyone takes care of themselves a bit more and others too. Never going to happen.
I don't see what's wrong about this?
It's a smaller scale, I know, but Singapore was expected to be the worst-hit country after China. They have had - as of yesterday - I believe 243 confirmed cases with 0 deaths. So far, still some in crit conditions, but also it's not a case of comparing countries by size we also live our lives very differently over here to Asian countries especially one so clean as Singapore. They also have some city lockdowns etc. we don't have and which you surely won't support happening: https://www.moe.gov.sg/addressing-top-covid-19-concerns
They did not cause mass panic. They tested and tested and put in preventative measures immediately. Yes, if we can test more here it would help but we can't yet.
Couldn't European countries have done more along those lines? Some have, I know, and as I said I appreciate Singapore is a much smaller scale, albeit it's however many millions of people in an extremely congested space...
I’d be in favour of an immediate increase in taxation to fund small businesses directly. An additional 5% for all income over £25,000 for example. You might want to re-read my post. Two separate points. For some reason you’ve tried to connect them.

Combine this with a government bailout as occurred with the banks.
I’d like to think our wealthiest would have the decency to contribute also. Unless they’d rather see the economy which they’ve all profited from so merrily tank for years that is.
We all need to play our part here.
