Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Maybe you should have tuned into the MP brief last night and you might understand that the financial support will be there for everyone whilst this goes on.

I did. I watched it all. I was commenting on here.

None of it benefits me or my family in any way.

I won't have any financial support as a freelancer. Hopefully that'll change.

I know it's half a joke, but I'm not at all Bruce.

I'm gutted it's not going ahead because it's just losing more and more hope.

I am not saying the situation isn't serious. Of course it is. And as I've said I totally understand the reasons for cancelling.

But genuinely, what are we gonna do. Just shut everything – everything – down for the year? Let the economy crash. Let people lose all of their income?

And I don't see why anything I said in the post which Brennan quoted - or my response to it - was so outrageous.

I'm not saying we accept the deaths or anything or don't take as many measures as possible, right now, to slow it down. But we're talking about stuff which is three and a half months away, nearly double the amount of time since the initial outbreak (if it's to be believed it did initially come just after Xmas?).

I suspect there will be as much possible to keep life going in the coming months, but there's every likelihood that this will be ongoing for several more months yet, so a gathering of 100,000+ people in the summer was never going to happen.

Thanks. I'll admit my head is a bit all over the place and I am worrying.

I am not meaning to sound callous. It's just more bad news on bad news and I think it's all spiraling out of control when there's no evidence that we'll actually need it to.

I expected Glasto to go. I'm not surprised. It's just a bit crap, innit.
All good.

I hear everything your saying and agree with ya.

I've yet to read anything factual regarding this virus which causes me to be any or more concerned than I have been previously of the flu.

Mate, I’ve been told not to go into work for 12 weeks, minimum. There was absolutely no hesitation in sending me home and telling me I’m not to come into work. That could be risen to 24 weeks.

How on earth can you still be so blind to this.

I do really think that our (prime minister) in Ireland was right on the money when he spoke last night, he said take breaks from social media and constant news and get out for a walk, your mental health is as important as your physical health. If you are on social media bin it off for a few hours turn off the TV get out for a walk if you can, clear your head lad.

Yep. I'm on here now as I'm at home just waiting for my car. Will be heading out very shortly to go to the gym (selfish, I know).

Haven't been on Twitter since seeing the Glasto news.

Why's it selfish?

I understand why it has been cancelled. I get it. They needed to make a decision quickly and I accept the reasons Nymzee. Totally. Can still be disappointed. Maybe my phrasing was a bit strong.

Second part of my post - I am simply stating what I've seen the plan to be from the government so far. It's not selfish at all. Do you really, really think that this thing is going to go on for three months at this level, given how quickly it has spread so far? Genuinely?

We're getting daily updates. The rise is what, double every day in terms of UK cases? And you think it's going to be three months?

I just don't see it. If the gov had put their plan in earlier, then yes, yes maybe it would be. But now? There's no chance we can be, what, four weeks behind Italy in terms of cases? It was less than two weeks since their lockdown?

How’s it not selfish whinging about something as completely meaningless as a music festival?

You, nor I, have any idea how long this will go on for and for you to say “all be over in 6 weeks” based on absolutely nothing is baffling.

Your head seems all over the place but you’re chatting a lot of crap in here today.

Self-employed people WILL be supported so you can’t have listened to the full thing.

I know I'll be supported one way or the other. But it's not just now that it's impacted for me, mate.

Down the line the work I was gonna have is gone. I can't expect the government to be funding me in September, when even though events will probably be back on, the market is so crowded because of everyone losing work now.

It's a really worrying time.

I just feel it's a bit crap that everything is getting canned. That's all I should have said, clearly.

I don't get why life is actually worth ploughing on for if you don't have the little things to look forward to.

Atm, it's just influencers self-isolating because they sneezed.

And it’s a worrying time for everyone but don’t worry about a future that’s clouded right now as that’s the definition of pointless. You will have an income one way or another, you will survive it, it’s a massive unavoidable change for everybody. Just concentrate on the present.

And don’t go to the gym that whinge events are being called off... there’s a reason they’re being called off.
