According to IDA Ireland, 50% of ventilators used in acute hospitals worldwide are made in Ireland.

Exports of medical devices and diagnostic products represent 8% of Ireland's total merchandise exports.

Just had an email that my youngest son’s Primary school here in Lowestoft has now closed its doors until at least after the Easter holidays, due to lack of staffing. Looks likely my eldest’s Secondary school will close anytime now also.

Can see many more schools doing the same regardless of government directives.

Taoiseach last night says that up to half the population may get infected - that would be 3.3 million on the island of Ireland.

Even at 1% mortality, which is very conservative, that is 33,000 deaths, and many more permanently scarred in their lungs, and vulnerable to future infection.

This is the stuff of worst nightmares.
Population of Ireland is roughly 4.8 million

Yeah, who cares about a few thousand dying of this and the NHS being completely overwhelmed. Let's all just get it so we can go to a poncy music festival.

Nowt to do with that.

If the gov's plan works - which it still could to an extent - then the NHS won't be overwhelmed. That's my point. Let's hope for the best and not wallow in self pity like we are doing atm. Cancelling everything only piles on the misery.

I've not got a job atm. I'm sending my cv out left, right and centre. My life has been turned on its head in the space of three days. I'm fortunate I don't have a family to fund.

So sorry if I was looking forward to certain parts of the summer.

Queen Vic on lock down.

You just know Ian Beale wouldn't wash his hands.

Ian would be a studious hand washer, Phil Mitchell or Mick Carter on the other hand would have just yelled at the virus to "Get out of my pub!" and thought that would be enough if that virus knew what was good for him.

...And that's before we get on to Shirley, who would be teeming with all kinds of bacteria and viruses.

Ridiculous.

They are already through the worst of it in China. It has been seven weeks.

Collectively I'm actually much more assured by the relatively measured UK approach than the panic lockdown mode of our European neighbours.
They got through it in China by taking even more drastic measures than the panic lockdown mode of your European neighbors. So you are trying to disprove somebody's comment by using China as an example while saying you are more assured by the UK approach than the actions of Europe who are not going as far as the country you used as an example of having done a good job... you are a little all over the place with that comment lad.

Ffs, @BlueToff is more concerned about the Wutang Clan not appearing at Glasto. Priorities man.

I know it's half a joke, but I'm not at all Bruce.

I'm gutted it's not going ahead because it's just losing more and more hope.

I am not saying the situation isn't serious. Of course it is. And as I've said I totally understand the reasons for cancelling.

But genuinely, what are we gonna do. Just shut everything – everything – down for the year? Let the economy crash. Let people lose all of their income?

And I don't see why anything I said in the post which Brennan quoted - or my response to it - was so outrageous.

I'm not saying we accept the deaths or anything or don't take as many measures as possible, right now, to slow it down. But we're talking about stuff which is three and a half months away, nearly double the amount of time since the initial outbreak (if it's to be believed it did initially come just after Xmas?).

Nobody knows if China has gotten through it......

Yep fair do's. And in China they have a lot more stringent measures. Fair enough.

My head's a little all over the place at the minute, as i'm sure a lot of people's are.

I don't know what the solution is. I just don't think 'cancel everything' for the rest of the year is one either.
