German institute: Two years for pandemic to run its course

We need to get some things clear:

1. Say goodbye to the idea of you going abroad on holiday for at least a year.
2. Say goodbye to the idea of any top-level sport being played for at least a year.
3. Say goodbye to the idea of a normal life for at least a year.

Ridiculous.

They are already through the worst of it in China. It has been seven weeks.

Collectively I'm actually much more assured by the relatively measured UK approach than the panic lockdown mode of our European neighbours.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned but freezers and particularly chest freezers have seen record sales the past couple of weeks. This is why the shelves are empty, absolute morons are filling these new freezers with food that they then won’t even eat.

Makes me sick.
Spoke to a guy who works in a supermarket - a woman was loading trolleys with frozen food. He questioned her about it and she said they'd had 2 new chest freezers delivered (in addition to the two they already had). He pointed out to her that even in a freezer, food only lasts 12 months. She looked confused and carried on.

that is genuinely my worry with this social distancing , to many people isolation can be a killer.

And it's why it won't work – or at least not in the long run. It's simply not sustainable.

The most damaging part of this pandemic has not been the virus. It has been the stringent and draconian reactions to it which are damaging people's mental and emotional wellbeing.

The one positive I hope to see at the end of it is that we learn that we need a healthier society. People don't take care of themselves (and others) enough. And nature has its way of forcing these things.

Honestly, it's as some of you have never played Pandemic Inc before.

It's a good gesture. With travel numbers so significantly reduced, you'd imagine there must be a lot of spare hotel capacity at the moment. I wonder if there will be similar moves by other hotels. There's a bloody great one opposite St Thomas' hospital, for instance.

The government should be taking hold of every private hospital with spare room, imo.

I'd be panicking a lot more about the actual virus if I lived in a big city, I'm sure.

As it is, I'm – how did the Tory's describe it, a 'Rugby League Man'. Got loads of room up here. Loads of fresh air. Went on a walk last night and saw nine cars and one person. That was weird. But not like a drastic reduction in what I'd normally see on a Tuesday night in March if you get me.

Wow what a gesture. Fair play to the man, im sure there might be a bit of cynical analysis about the motivation around the gesture given the difficulties he has had with the English administration.

But i think i'll see the good here, fair play Roman.

I suppose when you compare that to Richard Branson........

If that monster had attempted some decency like this he'd of demanded quadruple all rates for the rooms, all his staff to have been paid by the government, an immediate multi-million pound refurbishment of the building as soon as the pandemic was over, to be made Lord Branson the magnificent lord of all domains, his offspring to be knighted with immediate effect and to be canonised upon eventual death and become the patron saint of England.....

I hope that grasping rat gets his comeuppance sooner rather than later...

Even the article actually states it’s an assumption, not fact.

They must have been busy if they were driving nine cars on their own o_O

Can see them putting a spend limit in place soon if this carries on. Limiting to 2 per item only works if people don’t then buy 2 of EVERYTHING.

A bloke got around that when I went the other day by bringing his entire family. The wife had 2 packs of water, he had 2 packs of water, the dog had 2 packs of water. I tutted.

do people eat pasta all the time? terrible. no pasta or rice again today, luckily I wasn't going to buy any.
