Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I came down with a fever a few weeks ago when I got back to China from England. Felt/feel the same! Hope I have had the virus and now have immunity! My symptoms were fever, headache, and sore throat though, no cough or difficulty breathing, so I probably didn't.

Doubtful. I think the bat thing was just speculation although I don't know. Apparently it came from bats and was transmitted to other animals that were sold in the markets in Wuhan.

I thought it was poor people eating all these crazy animals (majority of Chinese don't eat wild animals) but apparently it is the very rich.

But you know a lot of the animals were things like peacocks. I wouldn't personally eat a peacock (although I ate an ostrich in Lincoln once!) but it's a far cry from a bat, and I can kind of see why some rich git would.

But a flying rat with wings that comes from some damp smelly cave with a thousand other winged rodents? I seriously doubt it.

But who knows!
Didn't realise you were an actual wolf. Thought it was illegal to steal animals from parks

Thought this was worth sharing in light of it driving the change in government approach to management of this pandemic. The summary gives a pretty good idea of options and contingencies, likely impact and potential length of time measures might be required for.

@RAFUH @Groucho @roydo would it be worth stickying a few links (this, the NHS etc.) somewhere to help guide people to these kind of authoritative sources?

German institute: Two years for pandemic to run its course

We need to get some things clear:

1. Say goodbye to the idea of you going abroad on holiday for at least a year.
2. Say goodbye to the idea of any top-level sport being played for at least a year.
3. Say goodbye to the idea of a normal life for at least a year.
The Japanese and the Chinese have also confirmed effective treatment using some drug produced by Adigan. Check it out.

Any positive effects of long term isolation indoors need to be measured against the potential detrimental effects on many peoples mental health. We could very well start to lose a higher number of people of all ages due to any lockdown.

Not a bad idea that. Have asked the others, but in the mean time, if @Bruce Wayne wants to start an "Info" thread, we can sticky it easily enough. One issue I have, being the internet and that, is qualifying the accuracy of some links.

Just going to work now to kick some Local Authority and NHS mangers arse, they have pulling face to face support of very vulnerable people who have enduring Mental health, they are all ready isolated by their communities by default. So they don't need to be completely removed from society. Honestly these managers are a breed of mouth breathing lizard's. There is a clear distinction between Isolation and social distancing, which has quickly been blurred by the bean counters.

An excellent idea, however, there's a huge biological flaw that will blown away by such a step in that herd immunity strategy advocated here by many.

Covid-19 is an RNA nucleic acid virus (just like flu viruses) and they have a much higher mutation and change rate than DNA viruses which is why new, different strains of flu viruses occur each autumn and why new sets of vaccinations have to be prepared each year to stop people getting fully infected with these new flu strains. Already, half a dozen or more different micro-strains of Covid-19 have already been identified and that divergence is likely to increase.

Indeed a case of be careful what you wish for...
