It's hard to imagine that all this has been caused by some moron who wanted to eat a bat. Is there even any meat on a bat?

Some bats are huge, I remember the ones in Sri Lanka in the evening were like huge birds. Or huge bats actually if you can imagine that.

I'm a big bat fan, amazing creatures. Never really had the urge to eat one but I've never been hungry with the option.

Now you mention it I remember those bats too when I was in Jaffna. They turned the dusk sky black. Think they were fruit bats.

I looked up the list of 'products' available in that wuhan market and it's truly mind boggling and vomit inducing. But I'm a vegetarian anyway.

The first thing that came to mind (there weren't a lot following it admittedly) was in The Three Amigos when they roasted them on the fire in the desert.

Anyway this isn't the clip of that, it's just afterwards. But it's a lovely song and very funny and shows the other side of bat eating that people don't talk about.

I gave equivalent of my day's pay to staff of a local business that unfortunately looks like it's going to be closed for awhile. It got me thinking and I know there's undoubtedly massive holes in this idea but maybe we could set up a voluntary donation account administered by local government or nationwide. That could receive anonymous donations to help people in need.

I understand we have church donations and charities. Perhaps we could set up something a wee bit more direct and immediate.

Closures and if it happens suspension of schools are going to place a massive burden on people who unfortunately have to live from paycheck to paycheck.

Could we set up a credit card system were vulnerable had the access to purchase goods entirely funded by donations. That individuals who have the financial capacity could pay into. A wee bit like crowd funding.

It's just an idea and like I said there's probably massive problems in implementing it.

I have continued to self-isolate, but I thought there'd be more information about what to avoid in terms of anti-inflammatory medication.

Cheers.

Well I'm hardly going to go out partying in my state right now.

Currently have a banging headache after sleeping most of the day. Going back bed in a bit once the sleeping medication kicks back in. Will keep you all updated.

I know it sounds mental, but I hope it is the Coronavirus as I feel like I've got past the "worst" of it now. I can't be doing this twice in a short period of time.

I came down with a fever a few weeks ago when I got back to China from England. Felt/feel the same! Hope I have had the virus and now have immunity! My symptoms were fever, headache, and sore throat though, no cough or difficulty breathing, so I probably didn't.

Doubtful. I think the bat thing was just speculation although I don't know. Apparently it came from bats and was transmitted to other animals that were sold in the markets in Wuhan.

I thought it was poor people eating all these crazy animals (majority of Chinese don't eat wild animals) but apparently it is the very rich.

But you know a lot of the animals were things like peacocks. I wouldn't personally eat a peacock (although I ate an ostrich in Lincoln once!) but it's a far cry from a bat, and I can kind of see why some rich git would.

But a flying rat with wings that comes from some damp smelly cave with a thousand other winged rodents? I seriously doubt it.

But who knows!

Bats are getting a hell of a bad press on here, I bet nobody was badmouthing our super sonar friends when The Dark Night came out.

Rich people on the other hand I can blame very easily.

Rich people's children should be drafted into the herd so they are infected like us.

This is now a worldwide problem and we are a world community who we need to help however we can.

It was the right thing to do and I would unquestionably do it again. There are many people out there who need help. I've talked before about members in the community volunteering and I've read numerous stories of individuals donating via tips to service staff.

Our governments can only do so much and I fear our medical professionals are very soon going to be stretched to breaking limits. If this fund could be set up to perhaps purchase testing kit's or provide assistance to the vulnerable. A credit card donation by individuals would be a form of direct action that could help ease the burden on the state and at the same time make a real difference.

How about gathering those that were layoff and forming a neighbourhood health assessment team going around collecting and forwarding samples to the test lab. Tapping into funds from the rescue package ensuring layoffs are paid at the same times while adequate health service can extend beyond the current reach.
