Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

China is a huge issue here. And what I mean by that is the Chinese Government. They're becoming a serial offender. It's unhelpful to label this pandemic as a "China Virus" What would be be far more accurate is a "China Government Virus" It's just not so succinct and catchy.

I don't want to see a situation where Covid raises prejudice on hardworking domestic, minority members, additionally we also know unfortunately, it doesn't stop there and before we know it labeling occurs throughout Asian communities.

Both UK and US governments have to seriously look at who benefits from our respective trade agreements. Do a rich percentage benefit because, let's face it, it's easy access to very poor labour wages. Instead do we agree that perhaps it's in the interest of our respective nations to stop out-sourcing manufacturing to China and bring it back home.

I don't buy China's narrative involving official statistics on this pandemic. In fact I think they are openly lying and mitigating damage to their repressive government.

Moving forward, we have to be aware that the self interest for a tiny percentage of our society and the government that is the beneficiary of that investment is a threat to our nations. And any further contact or indeed contracts between our countries should be based on their inability or ability to solve their domestic issues.

How about gathering those that were layoff and forming a neighbourhood health assessment team going around collecting and forwarding samples to the test lab. Tapping into funds from the rescue package ensuring layoffs are paid at the same times while adequate health service can extend beyond the current reach.

I think that's a great idea and one that many people would pay into.

But you know a lot of the animals were things like peacocks. I wouldn't personally eat a peacock (although I ate an ostrich in Lincoln once!) but it's a far cry from a bat, and I can kind of see why some rich git would.
In the UK 1800s people in the workhouses used riot often over use Osyters in their grual ... Also the being fed wild Salmon was common uprising, funny how the trends change within a class system

Boris and Trump are really going all out to see who can go down in history as handling this in the most bizarre and incompetent way possible, tough to call at the moment.

Also contenders are the Chinese fella who is still saying everything is fine and an outside bet is the Iranian guy who has just let all the prisoners out of jail, which I'm sure will cause no further problems at all.

Still time for other leaders to stake their claim for Pandemic Premier 2020, things are heating up nicely.

The Czech's are ordering everyone wear a face mask whenever they go outside, or face a fine that's broadly equivalent to 70% of the average monthly salary. The UK government are incredibly calm and measured in comparison.

Incidentally, for lockdown fans, the queues of trucks bringing in supplies at the Czech border with Poland are stretching for 30km at the moment, so you can begin to see why people don't believe this is a long-term policy.

Anyone got a sub to the ft that can post a summary?

I read the article, it basically says they did an extensive project of testing in Vo in the Veneto region, town of 3000 people, even testing those without sysmptoms. They were able then to isolate those carrying the virus and brought the infection rate to 0. They're now planning to roll that out across the Veneto region. If someone calls and reports symptoms, they'll be tested regardless of severity and their families will be tested too even if not showing symptoms. Just talks about extensive testing being the most effective way to reduce the spread.

aren’t we , as in the Uk , only testing those in hospital or celebrities? Seems a totally different response

German institute: Two years for pandemic to run its course

We need to get some things clear:

1. Say goodbye to the idea of you going abroad on holiday for at least a year.
2. Say goodbye to the idea of any top-level sport being played for at least a year.
3. Say goodbye to the idea of a normal life for at least a year.

Which is why the herd immunity concept is so important, as it would allow a degree of normality before a vaccine has been both released and monitored for effectiveness on a broad cross-section of society. Where the challenge will come, imo, is in securing the international cooperation to allow non-nationals into territories, as there is a lot of fear. We're in the early stages at the moment so I'm hopeful that as we familiarise ourselves with the situation that norms will emerge that aren't as punitive as they are at the moment.

personally I’d wait until your flat mate went out and then go and and give her a good seeing too.

Ahh are we now playing the semantics game? Carry on. Question why people are being weirdly pro-nationalistic over their response and use it as a stick to beat others and get called a knob.

Anyway, sure we've both got better things to do than this. As long as the whole thing gets sorted, who really gives a toss about the right and wrong way, as long as it ends with as few people dying as possible.

Oof, you've had a mare here mate. Next time have a look at some of the Irish members' posts and learn how to craft a better response
