Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I know I'll be supported one way or the other. But it's not just now that it's impacted for me, mate.

Down the line the work I was gonna have is gone. I can't expect the government to be funding me in September, when even though events will probably be back on, the market is so crowded because of everyone losing work now.

It's a really worrying time.

Given that most westerners have gone home, there will be plenty of teaching jobs in China available if you have a degree.

I just feel it's a bit crap that everything is getting canned. That's all I should have said, clearly.

I don't get why life is actually worth ploughing on for if you don't have the little things to look forward to.

Atm, it's just influencers self-isolating because they sneezed.

How old are you? Mid-20’s? You will go to Glasto again, you will watch footie again, people can have a year off life. How did people ever survive before music festivals and European Championships?

I cant believe people are still like this.

I mean i could understand underestimating it at first but not now.
I am not underestimating it. It's very serious, clearly.

Like I said, I'm not surpised something as 'meaningless' as a music festival (one which employs thousands of people btw and is huge for the economy/businesses big and large based in that industry) is gone.

It just doesn't stop me being disappointed by it given how far away it is and given how this situation has been around for just over half amount of the time that there is until it was due to take place.

Still not sure about the focus of the Government's financial support package yesterday. Sounds like loads of people are still getting canned/ripped-off by employers.

Mate, I’ve been told not to go into work for 12 weeks, minimum. There was absolutely no hesitation in sending me home and telling me I’m not to come into work. That could be risen to 24 weeks.

How on earth can you still be so blind to this.

Well in 12 weeks time let me know what going on with ya ?.

I've read into this virus, looked at the WHO website etc, everything indicates a strong similarity to the flu (symptoms, transmission, infection rate etc).

Yeah we don't have a vaccine for it yet, but the vast majority of cases have been stated will be mild at best. In some instances, people have probably got this virus and recovered fairly quickly without knowing they had it.

I don't have a degree, no.

I'm a sports reporter. Did a bit of news six years ago but it never caught my attention. Of course, if there is work there I won't shy away. I've just worked very hard in the last five years - and last year especially - to get to where I was. And in the space of 24 hours I lost two sources of income (my only reliable ones) and lost out on a job I was in for.

I get it. Crap happens. I'm just concerned moving forward how it's going to play out.

Obviously the main priority is saving lives.

You might not be concerned but try your very best, maybe check eBay, and buy some empathy for those in the vulnerable demographic that are terrified right now.

It's not about that.

It's just the misery and drama. It's honestly baffling me.

Of course the situation is serious. Just feel some are making it even worse.

Anyway, it wasn't about 'attending' either of those events. Like I've said, it's my livelihood and career. But yes, crap happens and there's more important things

So Glasto gone now too.

Pathetic.

Honestly what's the point? We might as well all get it and just be miserable all year. Everything's getting cancelled (somehow the Reds will still win the league too).

The absolute panic this has caused is depressing and far more worrying than the actual illness.

It's 14 weeks away and they've canned it. 14. This thing will be over in 6 regardless of the government plans working or not.

If their plan works, the NHS will be able to manage it and life will be able to return to - relatively - normal. More people working from home etc, definitely, but a bit of normality.

If the plan doesn't work then I'm sad to say that by the end of April most people will have had it, have got through it and got an immunity or, sadly, died. And the proportion of people which die from it will still be very small - it's just obviously gonna be a lot more than if the gov's plan to spread out the impact works.

Well, I suppose this gives you a break from pretending to be a football expert, so there's a positive

My main concern is why we as a western society (I mean the west in general) aren't prepared and ready to protect our most vulnerable.

And before anyone says anything, I voted Labour last year, btw.

Right, so was laced with selfish me me me intent then.
