What’s also interesting is the second bump predicted during the traditional flu season which appears to be mitigated with the approach taken. As if the steps taken haven’t just been about the here and now.

Indeed, I thought that was specifically what the strategy was for, reduction of the second wave......

If that’s true he should be hung drawn and quartered. Christ
Our only factory maker in ireland manufacturer turns out 500 per year worldwide, orders paid for he was on LBC yesterday and stated Hancock was asking for something that was unachievable.... in the UK.....
Again more Government propaganda - then a top ITC Dr came on and stated it did not matter at present as not enough staff or beds to use the specialist ventilators = 1 in 100,000 available to the General public. atm....

I think the prejudice is required to ensure the change happens in this scenario. If China think they can get away with doing nothing, they'll do nothing.

Through their policies they have caused a crisis to all humanity here. They need to be accountable for it, given this is now happening pretty regularly for the same reasons.

I'm going to re-iterate again. I agree with you. But how do we enforce it. Do we cut off-trade? Are you prepared for higher manufactured goods if we do. If we sanction?

Part of the problem here is, it's intrinsic to certain areas of Chinese culture. i'e they believe it's their right. Do we do the same with the bush-meat trade in Africa. You can't have jurisdiction over right's even if it effects all of us. To implement such policy is deeply unpopular and fosters resentment.

We're stepping into a minefield here mate. And even if sanctions were agreed would it enforceable? I'm going to say no.

The real problem we have is that Asian businesses are being abandoned, tarred with the same brush. And very soon it won't be ethnic groups who are suffering it'll be the mom and pop stores too.

Spot on with that Dec/ Jan was awful families down with some of the symptoms that are reported now... also kept returning with recurring symptoms as if they would break the news on time?.......

There is plenty more to this virus I believe than what is being reported. The fact China are again at the forefront is in no way surprising.

The more I think about it, the explanation given as to how this all started is a little strange.

Anyway, I mainly hope the panic subsides soon enough. Went to the shops earlier to buy some nappies, it's was a nightmare. Spoke to the staff at several shops and we were all in aggreance people are losing their minds.

I think governments worldwide could be and should be doing more and better to alay the fears and concerns of everyone.

I agree it's not enforcable if the Chinese don't want to enforce it.

Therefore, shaming them into it is the key tactic. Allowing the public to express their disapproval. Scream about boycotts on social media etc. Just screaming "that's racist" and pretending they didn't cause this through their actions isn't the way forward IMO.

Yes, there will be some prejudicial backlash by labelling it as such, but that backlash won't cost millions of lives, which is what allowing this to carry on will do - if not with this pandemic then the inevitable next one.

A debate on the foreign aid budget future project to be shelved 20 billion per year listening on LBC .....
A drop in the ocean maybe?
Richatd Branson asking for financial aid for his airlines when he is a multi billionaire is just as annoying imo.....

I despise that odious tit Branson, multi-billionaire who puts all his staff on 2 months unpaid leave, gah....

Those 4.1 billion dollars not enough for you whilst you sit on your paradise Island bemoaning your lot, that's probably just a guess anyway with your tax dodges everywhere else.
Flybe collapsed, sod it everyone finished up whilst you've based its pension in the Isle of Man. Which is not covered by PPF, Another masterstroke by the evil Billionaire...

Economist Francis Coppola said 'if flybes only problem was Corona virus Branson and Stobart could have stumped up some cash to tide it over, truth is they wanted out of a loss making investments and Corona virus is a convenient excuse for an exit, carpe diem as they say...

I notice PUTIN next door to China has been quite silent.....over Coronavirus

The time to argue about this was last week and more likely a month ago. Governments both in the UK and US and elsewhere made a decision. Debating it now is the equivalent of arguing about the barn door, once the door was left open. The horse has fled.

It is what it is. We are where we are. Taking adequate precautions, making sensible decisions and listening to government advice at this stage is the only viable solution to minimizing the effect.
You in UK are going to have to face it. The development of the virus is lagging behind Italy, Spain and now France but unless drastic action is taken now it will very soon be out of control.
The "kind" approach is no good, people do not respond.
Last Thursday Président Macron spoke to the nation here, he asked people to not gather, not frequent public places etc. What happened? fine sunny weekend in Paris and parks cafés were crowded. SO; Yesterday new rules. We are now being told what to do, and fined if we do not do as told.
Effectively confined to home for the next 15 days; there are exceptions of course, well listed on government sites.
I fear Brits are in for a shock when these measures become essential there.

That Netflix series Pandemic is understandably trending at the moment. Watching now it's scary how spot on those featured were.

Without going into too much (largely due to me nearing bedtime) but I think many countries are now dipping into their back pocket to help fund the measures they've taken in response to this virus may ultimately have some ramifications a few months down the track.

Is China doing anything to fund their citizens in such circumstances ?

As for these travel restrictions, on what advice were these implemented because I haven't seen anything on the WHO website which indicates they suggested such action. My understanding is that everything they advise regarding this virus is the same as other viruses and diseases.

I think that education is the key word here. And the government of China need to be doing a lot more, now we are all part of the global community, to ensure that dangerous eating practices are reduced.

Yes, we had all heard about the situation there. But did we in UK and France ban all flights to and from China. NO! Too busy luring Chinese tourists to London and to aris buy expensive things from Galeries Lafayette and Harods.
