You in UK are going to have to face it. The development of the virus is lagging behind Italy, Spain and now France but unless drastic action is taken now it will very soon be out of control.
The "kind" approach is no good, people do not respond.
Last Thursday Président Macron spoke to the nation here, he asked people to not gather, not frequent public places etc. What happened? fine sunny weekend in Paris and parks cafés were crowded. SO; Yesterday new rules. We are now being told what to do, and fined if we do not do as told.
Effectively confined to home for the next 15 days; there are exceptions of course, well listed on government sites.
I fear Brits are in for a shock when these measures become essential there.

Don’t know how it can enforced. We don’t have many police. The ones we do are getting the run around by the young local delinquents. They will beyond useless at dealing with what could be coming.

100,000 Police and Gendarmerie on patrol here from mid-day. Together with some military back up on standby.
The government are serious about containment.

It's very likely those measures will be introduced. However what I'm very, very proud of is, that despite an imminent threat, both governments in the US and UK are insisting at this stage that these are mere guidelines. Thankfully governments in our respective nations still have faith in their populace to do the right thing.

Whether our respective governments chose the right course is open to debate but what has become very clear is that, our nations will give every opportunity for their populace to make the right decision. And for that, thank God, that having faith in your own people prevails.

In the face of the prevelent "me me - now now" society, I fear that having faith in the population masses will turn out to be of no avail.
Clamp down now! Before it's too late.

I agree it's not enforcable if the Chinese don't want to enforce it.

Therefore, shaming them into it is the key tactic. Allowing the public to express their disapproval. Scream about boycotts on social media etc. Just screaming "that's racist" and pretending they didn't cause this through their actions isn't the way forward IMO.

Yes, there will be some prejudicial backlash by labelling it as such, but that backlash won't cost millions of lives, which is what allowing this to carry on will do - if not with this pandemic then the inevitable next one.
China will have been impacted finacially, if the moral aspects of well regulated animal welfare have never hit home, surely the practical aspects are right in front of them

You mean all the people killing each other for bog roll and penne pasta.
