Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

BORIS Johnson left manufacturers unimpressed last night after making light of the lack of available ventilator equipment in the UK as the coronavirus spreads.
Ventilators are critical in the care of some people suffering coronavirus, and there is concern that the NHS will face a shortage of the life-saving equipment as need increases.
A recent report from the Imperial College Covid-19 response team also warned that, under the UK Government's current plan to curb the spread of the pandemic, the health system will be "overwhelmed many times over".

In a conference call with over 60 businesses last night, Johnson and Michael Gove asked manufacturers to step up to help deal with the shortage.
However, according to POLITICO, Johnson joked that the initiative to build more ventilators could be known as "Operation Last Gasp".
One participant speaking with POLITICO journalist Charlie Cooper said “He couldn’t help but act the clown, even though he was a on call with serious CEOs from goodness knows how many companies.”
55 people in the UK have died as a result of Coivid-19 as of Tuesday morning.
Downing Street did not comment.

If that’s true he should be hung drawn and quartered. Christ

A week ago the US president called this a democratic hoax

And the fake tanned jaffa was wrong then and he'll probably be wrong multiple times after. What we do now have, is very skilled, experts who are competent in their field and health care professionals to back it up.

Yes it's going to cause massive problems. Probably immense suffering but at this time I'm going to trust our health professionals, government agencies and take personal responsibility.

Just been to the supermarket by mine. Even the mushy peas and tinned potatoes are gone. Must be huge amounts of dining going on behind closed doors.

Its fun, no?

This is going to be extremely serious soon. We're going to start running out of food in the shops unless the government steps in to help the transportation of goods quicker. Will we see food rationing brought in?

Things like chest freezers are all sold out online. Once people are fully stocked will they then quite this hoarding rubbish?

It isn't going to matter soon enough, people will stop going to pubs, restaurants, cinemas, cafes, zoos soon enough when the numbers of infected start to rise sharply...and those businesses will have no choice but to cut staff or close completely for the foreseeable future...
Has happened already in Ireland
Pubs voluntarily shut
Restaurants only doing take away or delivery
Food shops open. 2m distancing meant to be in operation

Hopefully we'll get through it

Well no. But I dont think law enforcement is necessary if the advice is dont go into social gatherings. People just need to follow advice. Pubs etc should close too in the first place.

Economy not the key issue. Individuals peoples health and wellbeing more important.
As to the last bit you do know it’s Boris Johnson and the torrid in charge ??

Im not sure why people are acting as if health and the economy are separate things ?

Coronavirus will kill thousands, a collapse of the economy could plunge millions into poverty. Countless deaths will result.

I know they are but the immediate health solutions would cause huge economic pain for the country and the individuals affected. But we still need to put measures in place. The less people affected by the disease, the quicker the economy recovers. Health comes first right now.

I cant see any easy answers here right now. Other than the government offering more financial support to people who lose their job or business etc.

Seems a fair assessment from the University of Liverpool.
At least they are actually publishing good data on it, i genuinely think that will go a long way. The cummings way has always been one of disinformation and muddying waters and headlines while hiding key political figures from making gaffes, but hopefully the government are seeing that getting as much info as possible out there that explains the thinking behind their approach. It certainly feels alot better reading the imperial paper than listening to that big fodded chode matt hancock stumble through a subject he quite clearly knows nothing about
