Your local cafe, bar, pub and restaurant will probably have insurance against loss of earnings if they're forced to close, which would help cover coronavirus.

Yet, the government aren't saying that bars etc. should close, but rather recommending that people simply keep away thus the onus is on the owners to decide.

Indeed. It’s really let the insurance companies off the hook. But then again they would have claimed against the government anyway, and we would all have had to pay it back. It gets you whichever way you play it......

The chancellor will now be part of the daily updates.

Panic is on its way.

To be fair, I do wonder how many rank and file politicians have been briefed on the true magnitude of what ‘potentially’ is not just knocking on our door but sitting with its feet up in our favourite armchair.

In my own tiny part of the world I have heard Irish scientists echoing European Superbrains as to what we need to do in proper life and death stakes. UK boffins and govt are at odds with that guidance and our hands are all beetroot with the accordant washing.

They can’t both be right though, one group has nailed it and one has got it badly wrong.

I personally find it hard to place my trust.

Which is the best position to be in. Its a very rare politician who would be willing to run the risk of something bad happening based on a sober collection of evidence that can be directly traced back to them; they'll usually either take the easy option (close schools in this case) and then say they were doing what people wanted, or failing that blame an underling.

TBF the scale of these claims will almost certainly wipe out every insurance firm involved in that sector long before any government bailout, if that is the route they are going down.

The government needs to offer a mortgage / rent holiday for a quarter combined with no tax on affected businesses at all, plus SSP or UC for everyone who can't work as a result. Taking housing costs (and transport) out of the equation should allow most people to get through this.

Ok fellas what do we do now? One of my kids got sent home from school today with a 38degree temp. Got him home and it’s been more like 37.5. My daughter has one of 37.7 and mine is 37.5
Treat it like a flu, could very well be just a flu. If symptoms get severe obv phone the docs. Same as flu.

My own uneducated opinion is that we will now have to suffer from some very costly lessons, which we can only hope will be learned from in preparation for a so called ‘Disease X’ that may well arrive in the future.

A great start would be the Chinese government banning the so called wet markets...
