I've been trying to argue since Friday that such a step should at the very least be debated in an emergency sitting by parliament.

As we've seen a lot of people are more concerned with their stocks than their nans, and will tell you following the UK way is following science, despite there being perfectly legimate opposing scientific views that seem to offer much more empathy

Ey?

I'm sure the schools will get closed but at this stage there's no evidence at all to suggest what you're saying will happen.

Half of the population - at least - is going to get infected with this. There's nothing we can do to stop it. We can only slow it down. We can't slow it down as much as initially predicted (that 10-12 week peak) because we didn't do enough testing, basically.

I know it's grim but we have to accept that it's the case. 40m people will get this. The vast, vast majority will be fine, young or old or middle aged.

It's making sure we protect the vulnerable as much as possible but there's only so much that's going to be able to be done in that regard. The best hope we have is of spreading out the infection over a period of say, 5-6 weeks rather than 1-2 (as happened with the first outbreak in Italy and then Madrid) so that people who do need the additional care can be cared for.

I think the worst possible way to deal with it is by doing very little and just accept infection by millions.

Take Korea as example, their numbers drop once measures were implemented. it’s just a choice between short term tough restriction or long term suffering with relax regulation.

Definitely ways to prevent millions of infection, the will to do so is weak

The military has been called into Wuhan as medical personnel just cannot cope with the sheer number of people who have contracted this.

Make no mistake, that 900 figure is not the truth. You can times it by ten and you may get somewhere closer to the truth. Number of deaths is also likely to be many times higher than has been reported.

We should leave the Chinese to deal with it how they see fit for themselves. However, international governments must do what's best for its people and that is to suspend all flights from China, as difficult as that is for me to think and call for. (I have family and friends in China).

I posted this yonks ago. Why didn't people listen to me ffs

At times I did feel like that weird loner who warns people about the end of days. Never being taken seriously, but every single post of mine from the early days has proven to be correct. I take absolutely no pleasure from the fact that I was right. Just great sadness that what should have been an easily avoidable situation has escalated to this, thanks to the incompetence of the WHO and governments all over the world.

The key takeaway from that (for me at least) is that there isn't really an easy way out of this. Until a vaccine is developed, it's going to be a case of striving for the least bad outcome.
Interesting that the whole ‘we should shut schools NOW’ cry is throughly debunked. Arguably the better thing to do would to be cancel the upcoming half terms and prolong the summer break
