Man, thats suprising to see the two most extreme geographically and isolated island nations having the lowest cases. Couldnt have seen that coming. Really would have figured it to be a land locked country with actual neighbors and situated along the 37th parallel.
Being an island nation undoubtedly conveys some great advantages in these situations but it is not a certainty that they will be exploited as sadly shown by the UK.

I take your point about being remote but despite its relative isolation, New Zealand still has a lot of trade/tourism with China https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12309164 providing the opportunity for many early seeding events that they have controlled well.

Iceland still had virus introductions (mainly from US travelers iirc) but they also did a huge early testing program, one of the highest per capita in the world and have tested about 15% of their population to date and that is providing very useful data for everyone https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2006100

So both countries have been far from complacent on their inherent advantages and I wanted to acknowledge that.

It's also much easier to control, advise & monitor 100 people compared to 100,00 people.

But I thought China had beaten this and that their numbers are not growing. So what is the point of doing another 6 million tests, with testing kits that don’t work, on the populace. Have they left the Wuhan Lab door open again....
Because they're vigilant and not complacent?

I know being a citizen of the Banana Republic those concepts might seem alien to you.

I do worry sometimes about people’s seeming refusal or inability to accept personal responsibility.

If you cannot work from home and you cannot avoid public transport then you can use public transport. Alternatively you can have discussions with your employer who will in 99% of cases be happy to work with you to find a solution, most likely remaining on furlough. There will of course be difficult cases for individuals but the narrative being spun by some on here and Twitter is that last nights message has plunged society into death and destruction.

Some people are slating the loosening of social distancing as being confusing. Personally I feel you just need to use common sense and take responsibility for your actions.

Go to the garden centre if you have to. Don’t go with anybody else unless you have to. Meet a friend in the park if you have to.

The government cannot answer every individual query or create a perfect set of guidelines for every single scenario that answers every question. It is impossible.

That is not to say that Boris isn’t a scumbag and the Government haven’t made countless errors throughout this process. I just don’t think allowing people to go back to work using their judgement and allowing Sue to buy some compost from Dobbie’s is the end of the world.
Does Sue know Karen ??
