Professor of structural biology at Stanford University mate, he won the Nobel prize for chemistry for the development of multi-scale models for complex chemical systems
Nice one mate, will have a read later. About 5-6 weeks ago thet was some statistician saying similar but based purely on the stats without any medical input.

I’ve still not got a clue what you’re on about.
If I think I know what he’s on about, it’s the fact that people said a few weeks ago on here that wearing masks didn’t particularly prevent then catching the disease, rather Reduced the likelihood of them passing it on, but that was more down to people not being able to use masks effectively. Again this has been something that SAGE have said throughout.

Of course because people had used logic to support something the government was saying, that means they are neoliberal shills.

Assuming he lives in his constituency then yeah it probably is.

This bloke is a Conservative brexiteer from Poland though so he probably isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer....
He was the MP who complained that Germany had benfited from Marshall Aid after the war and Britain hadn't. After it was shown that Britain had received more Marshall Aid than Germany, he didn't acknowledge his error nor did he apologise.

So let me get this right: The pandemic was scaremongering by a Government wanting to create fear among it's public which should be rallied against, but you would've welcomed a military enforced lockdown at that point; but now you've decided that the Government actually weren't scaremongering but didn't do enough and are murders by their inaction, you've decided that a military enforced lockdown and Peterloo style massacre/charge is acceptable from a Government that presumably should've tried to create fear among the public?

Have i got that right?

He lost every ounce of his credibility when he started advocating martial law lol

The Alt right thing made me laugh, talk about going off the deep end.

The chancellor himself has said people are addicted to the furlough scheme.

I need to see him singing this with girls in tight black dresses and red lipstick before I believe it.

Yet many on here have said they won’t use the App. So next I expect an argument about the quality of the App etc etc. as an excuse not to use it . Anything really just to keep kicking the ball down the road. If Boris said lockdown continues, you will complain, if he says it is a step by step back to work, you will complain. If the sodding virus disappeared I would fully expect you to complain. It really is time for people to grow up........

There has to be a degree of personal responsibility and common sense - you always get your morons, did you see the congas and street parties for VE Day when the government advice couldnt have been any more blunt.

The problem is with this is we are only as strong as the weakest link, you can't just ignore and leave them be in this case. They will be touching doors and their kids will be going to school where someone who is following the guidelines gets caught up in it.

Go easy on them they are busy saving up 200,000 tests for the last day of May.

... now it's more 10%.

It's 4 to 5% at the moment, and falling.

1) it’s not 50,000

Not on the DoH daily figures, but, in two or three weeks time, when the ONS figures catch up, it'll likely be about 50,000

Maybe sometimes pause, and assess.

On the internet ? It's an interesting idea, but I can't see it catching on.
It's also not how Dave works, I used to think he was a bright guy with a fine sense of wummery, but I no longer hold that view.

Nobel scientist predicts virus will 'burn out' in next two weeks

A Nobel Prize- winning scientist has predicted, through analysing raw data, that Ireland's death rate and infection will "burn itself out" in the next two weeks, enabling an earlier exit from lockdown.

Professor Michael Levitt, of Stanford University, was speaking after he correctly calculated the demise of China's spread, long ahead of most health experts.

In early February, as many scientists warned of exponential growth, Levitt forecast the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in China would taper out at around 80,000, with 3,250 deaths. Three months on, China has a total of 82,885 cases and 4,633 deaths - in a population of 1.4bn.

Now Prof Levitt has calculated that Ireland's infection is burning itself out and will 'taper off' at around 30,000 cases and fewer than 2,400 deaths. Ireland now has 22,385 cases and 1,403 deaths.

He says the death rate is more difficult to predict, due to a number of factors, such as some countries counting coronavirus deaths in those who would normally have died from underlying health conditions.

It's probably a bit of wishful thinking on my part, but I look at the situation in London ( dropping infections and deaths ) and do wonder if there's something in this.

He lost every ounce of his credibility when he started advocating martial law lol

TBF he didn’t - in the rest of Europe, they have been able to call in greater numbers of cops and the paramilitaries (like the CRS (edit: sorry, the Gendarmerie not the CRS) and the Carabinieri) to help with the lockdown. That wasn’t martial law, though they were all in various states of emergency.

We couldn’t do that here, because we don’t have that type of agency, or the extra cops we’d need to do it, or a Government who would have thought enforcing its own measures would be needed.

Yeah, because as we all know you move from infection to ICU in 3 days.

It's probably a result of all the social distancing infringements over the last month or so. The north west as a whole is hot spot for new infections I read somewhere
I read that too. Doesn’t liverpool have a really high infection rate.
I’m worried there might be a big jump following the weekend.
There were a fair few house parties around here. I walked to the park last week and it was business as usual.
I think we need to be prepared for the inevitable jump.
tbh, I doubt the second/third phase will happen.
